This role also leads payroll projects and system upgrades, mentors junior payroll staff, and improves payroll processes over time. A Day in the Life (What you will do here): * Takes a hands-on role in processing payroll for a subset of legal entities, given the tight turnaround and high employee volume involved in each payroll cycle; balances direct processing with supervisory oversight of the broader team * Processes and audits multi-provincial payroll (salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, deductions). Keeps HRIS records accurate for reporting and audits. * Owns payroll compliance: year-end filings (T4, T4A, T2200, ROEs) and government remittances (Health Tax, WSIB, CPP) by province. * Manages payroll records retention per policy. Processes off-cycle payments as needed. Removes terminated salaried employees from auto-pay promptly. * Serves as the primary point of contact for payroll matters, resolving cases quickly with a focus on superior customer service. * Works with Finance and Accounts Payable on GL reconciliations, new payroll code/GL mapping, and updates to employee banking and garnishment details. * Leads, mentors, and trains Junior Payroll Specialist. * Reviews and approves final payroll before it goes to the Controller. Keeps supporting documents for audit. Acts as backup for the Payroll Specialist. * Leads payroll system enhancements and special projects, partnering with IT, HR, and Finance stakeholders. * Investigates payroll discrepancies and fixes them at the source. Is the escalation point for tough payroll, tax, and compliance issues, including CRA rulings and audits. * Drives SOP standardization, automation, and continuous improvement in payroll. Upholds Sentrex's Mission, Vision, Values, and Brand. * Other duties as assigned by your manager What you need to ensure you are set up for success: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, similar field, or equivalent experience. * 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including mentoring or reviewing the work of other payroll staff, in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. * PCP Certification is required. CPM Certification is strongly preferred, reflecting the seniority and scope of this role. * Strong knowledge of multi-provincial payroll in Canada: preparation, balancing, internal controls, payroll taxes, and the full payroll cycle (banking, journal entries). * Demonstrated experience leading payroll system implementations, upgrades, or process improvement/automation projects. * Strong Excel and payroll software skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, system setup/testing). Power Query, macros, and Workday experience are assets. * Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize competing projects. * Strong business/financial acumen and superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. * Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset. The final base salary will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, and internal equity.
