Nearly 80% of our family law files are legal aid certificates. That isn't a sideline next to the real practice. It is the practice. Serene Law is a family law boutique serving families across Ontario: separation and divorce, parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, property division, child protection matters, and the agreements that hold all of it together. Most firms take the occasional certificate and build the business around private retainers. We built it the other way around. A family law system that only works for people who can pay privately isn't a justice system — it's a service tier, and the people who most need a lawyer are the least likely to have one. That's truest in child protection. When the state is involved in decisions about your children, going without counsel is not a real option. We lead with settlement, and where settlement isn't safe or available we litigate, backed by a firm that has been doing exactly that for over a decade. A note to other professionals: if your work puts you in front of families in crisis — social workers, counsellors, duty counsel, shelter and community workers, or lawyers who don't take certificates — send them to us. We accept legal aid certificates for family law and child protection, and we'll tell them honestly whether they qualify and whether they need a lawyer at all. Referrals are taken seriously here. We're growing deliberately. A new family law lawyer joins us roughly every six weeks, because there is far more of this work than there are firms structured to do it properly.
