Volunteer Board Directors

SMART Recovery Canada is recruiting experienced professionals and community leaders to join our volunteer Board of Directors and help guide our next stage of national growth. SMART Recovery Canada is a registered charity that provides free, practical support for people seeking change from addictive behaviours, as well as support for their families and friends. Our programs are grounded in evidence-informed tools and emphasize self-management, personal choice and life beyond addiction. Through a growing network of trained volunteer facilitators, SMART Recovery offers mutual-support meetings in communities, treatment settings, correctional institutions and online. Our approach is non-religious, judgment-free and welcoming of people at all stages of change. With 201 active meetings, more than 300 trained facilitators and a presence in nine provinces and two territories, SMART Recovery Canada is expanding access to recovery support across the country. This is a working board. Directors contribute approximately five to 10 hours per month, participate in quarterly board meetings and regular working sessions, and serve on a committee or strategic initiative. We are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in: • Accounting and finance • Information technology • Fundraising and government relations • Strategy and planning • Research and evaluation • Communications and digital engagement We also want to strengthen regional representation, particularly from Vancouver Island, Manitoba, Atlantic Canada and the territories. Previous board experience is not required. Candidates should bring demonstrated expertise, sound judgment, a commitment to SMART Recovery Canada’s mission and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s governance and growth.
