Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Fire Protection Designer role based in Winnipeg, MB. The Fire Protection Designer will prepare detailed fire protection system layouts, including sprinklers and related components, using CAD or similar design software. Responsibilities include reviewing building plans, codes, and specifications; performing hydraulic calculations; and coordinating designs with engineers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction. The role involves producing accurate construction drawings, material lists, and as-built documentation, as well as supporting permitting and approval processes. The Fire Protection Designer will also collaborate with project managers and field teams to address design issues, support installations, and ensure systems meet code, safety, and quality requirements. Qualifications Demonstrated skills in fire protection system design, including sprinkler layouts, hydraulic calculations, and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings. Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and related design tools; familiarity with modeling or BIM platforms (e.g., Revit) is an asset. Knowledge of applicable fire and building codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, local building codes) and the ability to apply them in practical design scenarios. Strong technical math, spatial reasoning, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to accuracy and detail in drawings and calculations. Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, contractors, inspectors, and internal project teams. Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a construction environment. Post-secondary education in engineering technology, drafting/design, fire protection technology, or a related field; relevant certifications or technologist designation are considered an asset. Commitment to safety, continuous learning, and maintaining current knowledge of industry best practices and code changes.
