Role Description The Industrial Refrigeration Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role based in Calgary, AB. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial refrigeration systems and related equipment in food production, cold storage, and other industrial facilities. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine inspections, completing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and executing timely repairs to minimize downtime. The mechanic will read and interpret technical drawings and manuals, monitor system performance, and ensure all work meets safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Collaboration with project managers, fabricators, and customers to plan work, document service activities, and support system upgrades and retrofits is also part of the role. Qualifications Strong preventive maintenance and general maintenance & repair skills for industrial refrigeration and related mechanical systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting complex refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. Solid understanding of electricity, including working safely with electrical components, controls, and instrumentation. Experience with HVAC systems, industrial refrigeration equipment, compressors, condensers, evaporators, and associated piping. Relevant trade certification (e.g., Refrigeration Mechanic, HVAC Technician) and/or apprenticeship completion; additional training in industrial refrigeration is an asset. Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, including adherence to lockout/tagout procedures and applicable codes and standards. Ability to read technical drawings, P&IDs, and manufacturer documentation, and to maintain accurate service records. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a field service team. Valid driver’s license and willingness to work on customer sites, including occasional overtime or after-hours service as needed.
