As part of the company's leadership team, the role leads engineering and owns architecture, security and the technology budget across both product lines. The position offers the chance to define the architecture of a growing portfolio, stay hands-on where the work calls for it, and lead experienced, long-tenured engineering teams through their next stage of growth. 💻 Who You Are A people-first leader who measures their own success by the success of the team An approachable leader who builds the level of trust that allows engineers to raise concerns and contribute ideas openly Collaborative in setting direction, building plans with the team rather than handing them down Comfortable moving between leadership discussions and architecture detail, and stepping into the code when a small team needs it Commercially minded, treating cost, budget accountability and recurring revenue as part of every technical decision Someone who keeps pace with developments in AI and is practical about where they add value to the business 📍 Work Type Location: Markham, ON (Hybrid, 3 days per week) Vacancy Type: This role reflects an existing vacancy 🎯 What You'll Do Lead, coach and develop the engineering teams behind the SaaS platforms and the XR training simulator Own the technical architecture of existing and new products, keeping them scalable, secure and cost-effective Guide several new products currently in development from architecture through launch Own the technology budget, including infrastructure, tooling, vendor and AI usage costs Build product and technology roadmaps that support the company's move from project-based work to recurring-revenue products Set security standards across the software and XR products Expand the team's use of AI tools and agents to raise productivity, while tracking and optimizing what they cost Join client meetings alongside account management and product when technical leadership is needed ⭐ What We're Looking For 5+ years in senior technology leadership, accountable for how engineering teams plan, build and deliver software Proven strength in people leadership, including hiring, coaching and retaining engineers and earning the trust of established teams A track record of defining technology roadmaps and taking software products from concept to market Direct ownership of a technology budget, with accountability for infrastructure, tooling, vendor and AI spend Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructure and application security, with the authority to make and defend architectural decisions for SaaS products Hands-on experience integrating AI tools and agents into engineering workflows, with a clear view of their cost and return Executive presence with clients and leadership, translating technical strategy into business terms Nice to have: Experience with XR, VR or mixed reality products, or with Unity development Experience moving a business from project-based delivery to a product model Exposure to labour unions, skilled trades, apprenticeship programs or member-based organizations 🔥 What Makes This Role Exciting New Products: Guide several new products from first architecture decisions through launch during an active build phase Full Ownership: Take ownership of architecture and the technology budget across two distinct product lines A Voice in the Business: Work with the leadership team on product and business strategy, not only engineering Two Disciplines in One Role: Lead work that spans SaaS business software and immersive XR simulation A Self-Sufficient XR Team: Lead an XR team that is technically strong in its own right, so leadership time goes into people and direction Base Salary: $200,000 – $240,000 Paid Time Off: Competitive vacation and personal days to maintain a healthy work-life balance Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision benefits to support your overall well-being Performance Bonus: Annual incentive opportunity recognizing individual contribution and business impact 📩 Ready to Build and Lead a Growing Engineering Organization?
