Our clients come to us with their biggest, most complex challenges because that’s where we thrive. And we’re looking for problem solvers, high achievers, and visionaries to help us. Join us for a chance to grow professionally at one of the world’s top design firms while building our clean energy future. Your Impact Our multidisciplinary engineering teams deliver innovative and reliable solutions for electrical power systems, including transmission and distribution substations, generating stations, and high-voltage infrastructure projects. By combining technical expertise, practical field experience, and a deep understanding of utility standards, we help our clients develop safe, reliable, and cost-effective power systems. As a Protection & Control Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in the design and integration of protection, control, automation, and monitoring systems for medium- and high-voltage substations. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, equipment manufacturers, and utility clients to deliver high-quality technical solutions throughout all phases of a project. Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities Prepare detailed electrical drawings, including single-line diagrams, AC and DC schematics, protection and control diagrams, elementary diagrams, three-line diagrams, logic diagrams, and interconnection drawings. Develop detailed wiring and termination drawings for protection relays, control panels, RTUs, PLCs, SCADA systems, annunciators, metering devices, and communication equipment. Design and document relay protection systems for transmission and distribution substations, including line, transformer, bus, reactor, capacitor bank, and feeder protection schemes. Prepare relay input/output (I/O) allocation tables and control logic diagrams for digital protection and automation systems. Develop cable schedules, conduit schedules, material take-offs, bills of materials, and equipment specifications. Participate in the configuration and integration of modern microprocessor-based protection relays, including SEL, GE Vernova, Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, or equivalent platforms. Support the development of automation and supervisory control architectures, including SCADA, HMI, RTU, IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and other substation communication protocols. Review vendor drawings and coordinate technical interfaces between protection systems, switchgear, transformers, breakers, communication networks, and utility control centers. Coordinate technical activities with engineers and project managers to ensure project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives are achieved. Participate in design reviews, hazard assessments, and constructability reviews. Perform site surveys and field verification activities to validate existing installations and collect information required for engineering design. Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, testing, and energization activities. Assist clients in resolving technical issues related to protection, control, automation, and substation operation. Qualifications and Experience College Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent discipline. Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and control design for electrical utility, industrial, or consulting engineering projects. Strong experience with high-voltage and medium-voltage substations and associated protection and control systems. Proven knowledge of modern digital protection relays and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). Experience preparing relay schematics, tripping circuits, control circuits, alarm circuits, interlocking schemes, and automation logic. Working knowledge of substation communication networks and protocols, including IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, and Ethernet-based systems. Experience with relay I/O mapping, panel design, marshalling cabinets, junction boxes, and field wiring. Familiarity with utility standards and practices, including Hydro-Québec standards and those of other North American utilities. Experience with power transformer, transmission line, busbar, feeder, capacitor bank, and breaker protection applications. Proficiency with AutoCAD and other electrical drafting software (E3). Strong understanding of construction practices and field installation requirements. ASP Construction Health and Safety Certification. Experience with protection relay settings, functional testing, or commissioning activities. Familiarity with SEL AcSELerator, GE EnerVista, ABB PCM600, Siemens DIGSI, or similar engineering software.
