WHAT YOU WILL DO: The Application Developer designs, develops, maintains and supports business applications, system integrations and databases to improve business processes and data exchange across the organization. This permanent, full-time position is based in Calgary, Alberta, and requires experience with Microsoft technologies, including .NET, C#, SQL Server and GitHub, as well as the use of AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing and documentation. Career growth: Possibilities to expand your career Comprehensive total rewards: * Generous total rewards package including competitive pay, benefits, and reward offerings * STEP-provided benefits package (start day one with option to upgrade) * RRSP matching * Potential for paid training and development opportunities * Fuel discount card for personal use * Employee perks including corporate discounts and memberships * Employee referral bonus program WHAT WE REQUIRE: Responsibilities Application Development * Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain business applications using .NET and C#. * Enhance and support existing applications to meet evolving business requirements. * Participate in application architecture, technical design, and code reviews. * Develop and maintain APIs, services, and backend components. * Troubleshoot and resolve application defects and performance issues. * Work with business stakeholders to define requirements and technical specifications. * Utilize GitHub and GitHub Copilot to improve development efficiency, code quality, documentation, testing, and team collaboration while adhering to development standards and best practices. * Create technical documentation for developed solutions. * Follow established development standards, security practices, and change management processes. AI-Assisted Development * Use AI coding assistants and agents (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and similar) as a standard part of daily development - scaffolding, refactoring, test generation, documentation and troubleshooting. * Review, test and take ownership of AI-generated code to the same standard as hand-written code; understand where these tools are unreliable and when not to use them. * Contribute to the written conventions, prompts and repository-level instructions that make AI assistance produce consistent, standards-compliant output for the whole team. * Apply AI tooling within established security, data-handling and change-management practices. Application and Integration Support * Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for internally developed and supported applications. * Analyze and resolve application, integration, and database issues. * Monitor application performance and system health. * Collaborate with vendors and external partners to resolve technical issues. * Document solutions, troubleshooting procedures, and support knowledge. * Participate in after-hours support activities as required. Continuous Improvement * Identify opportunities to automate business processes and improve operational efficiency. * Recommend enhancements to application architecture, integration design, and development practices. * Contribute to technology planning and modernization initiatives. * Evaluate and pilot emerging AI development tools and workflows, and share effective practices with the team. * Stay current with Microsoft development tools, platforms, and best practices. Qualifications * Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Information Technology, or related field. * Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience. * Demonstrated experience delivering business applications and integrations in a corporate environment. * Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design, stored procedures, views, and query optimization. * Experience developing and consuming REST APIs and web services. * Experience building and supporting system integrations. * Proficiency with GitHub for source control, branch management, pull requests, code reviews, and release management. * Demonstrated experience developing with AI coding assistants or agents (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor), including reviewing and validating generated code. * Sound judgment about the limits of AI-generated code - correctness, security, licensing and maintainability. * Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices. * Experience troubleshooting production applications and resolving complex technical issues. * Knowledge of application security, authentication, and authorization concepts Key Competencies * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. * Strong organizational and time-management skills.
