Position Title: Total Compensation Specialist Department: People and Culture [https://stfx.ca/people-culture] Position Type: Full-Time Continuing Classification: MPE Band D Salary Range: $55,906.50 to $68,289.00 based on 37.5 hours per week (2025 rates) Posting Date: May 26, 2026 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Position Description The Total Compensation Specialist is an integral part of the People and Culture team responsible for the day-to-day administration of the University's payroll and benefits programs within their assigned portfolio. The Specialist is responsible for employee set up/data entry to the University’s Human Resources Information System as well as preparing the University’s payroll. The Specialist ensures adherence to governing legislation and regulations, best practices, University policies, collective agreements, and strict deadlines. Key Responsibilities * Process bi-weekly payroll/benefits ensuring accuracy and timeliness. * Responds to inquiries in a timely and accurate manner and builds strong positive relationships with internal and external clients. * Training and support of employees using various self-serve technology. * Manage data and reporting within the HR Information System (UKG Pro). * Ensures new hires, leave requests, and terminations are approved and reflected accurately in corresponding documentation. * Meet year-end deadlines for production of T4’s and other tax forms, balance statutory deductions to CRA and investigate/correct any discrepancies. * Prepare monthly remittances, reports and premiums for university benefit programs to insurers and balance accounts on a monthly and year end basis. * Calculate annual salary increases and retroactive payments as required. * Produces Records of Employment in accordance with Service Canada regulations. Qualifications * Relevant post-secondary education (diploma or university degree) with previous experience in payroll and benefits. * Strong understanding of payroll processes and experience in a multi union environment. * Ability to combine speed and accuracy to meet deadlines in a high-volume environment. * Ability to work independently and prioritize workload. Strong understanding and commitment to confidentiality. * Strong customer service skills, ability to anticipate needs and demonstrates a high level of responsiveness to client needs. * Comfortable with technology including MS Office and, preferably, prior experience using UKG Pro and Workforce Management (formerly Kronos). * Payroll, benefits, or HR designation considered assets. What you’ll do

The Total Compensation Specialist manages the day-to-day administration of payroll and benefits programs, including data entry into the HRIS. They ensure compliance with legislation, collective agreements, and university policies while meeting strict reporting deadlines.

Requirements

Candidates need a relevant post-secondary diploma or degree and previous experience in payroll and benefits within a multi-union environment. Proficiency in MS Office and experience with UKG Pro or Kronos is preferred.
