Job summary
Company Description Sticky Greens Cannabis is a Saskatchewan-based brand driven by a team that is passionate about the potential of naturally derived flavoring in cannabis vapes. Drawing on extensive experience in cannabis marketing and retail, the company focuses on designing some of the best vape products in Canada. Sticky Greens emphasizes out-of-the-box flavors that evoke nostalgic experiences while remaining accessible at everyday price points. Team members collaborate closely across functions to innovate, refine products, and deliver a consistent and high-quality customer experience. Role Description We are looking for an exceptional Senior Accountant to join our team and grow into ownership of the accounting function. This role is intended for someone who is ready for more than a traditional Senior Accountant position. You will initially work closely with the current Director of Finance to learn the business, systems, processes, and industry. As you become established in the role, you will progressively take ownership of the finance function, with the intention of moving into an Accounting Manager role within approximately six months. We operate in the regulated cannabis industry, with a business model that involves manufacturing, inventory, third-party production partners, and a lot of moving pieces. We need someone who is technically strong, exceptionally detail-oriented, naturally curious, and capable of eventually running the accounting function with a high degree of independence. What You'll Own As you transition into the role, you will take ownership of: The full accounting cycle, including AP, AR, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and general ledger management Month-end and year-end close, ensuring financial reporting is accurate, complete, and delivered on time Preparation and review of monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules Biweekly payroll, including payroll changes, reconciliations, remittances, year-end reporting, and payroll compliance Inventory and cost accounting, including raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, manufacturing costs, inventory movements, variances, and wastage Accounts receivable management and collections Accounts payable and cash requirements Cash-flow forecasting and management Budgeting, forecasting, and financial variance analysis Financial and operational reporting for leadership Year-end preparation and management of relationships with external accountants Tax, payroll, and other financial compliance requirements Development and maintenance of accounting policies, processes, documentation, and internal controls Investigation and resolution of financial and inventory discrepancies Cross-functional financial coordination with Sales, Operations, Commercial, and external manufacturing partners Continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting, controls, and processes As Accounting Manager, you will be expected to independently manage these responsibilities, establish priorities within the accounting function, and act as a key financial resource to leadership. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Strong full-cycle accounting experience and the ability to independently manage a set of books from transaction through financial statements Hands-on payroll experience is required Strong understanding of accrual accounting, month-end close, and financial statement preparation Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow management Exceptional attention to detail — this is critical Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large, complex, or imperfect datasets Strong analytical and problem-solving skills An instinct to investigate discrepancies and understand why something happened, not simply report that it happened Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities Comfortable taking ownership and making decisions independently Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working in a fully remote environment Proactive and self-directed; you don't need someone constantly checking that things are getting done Comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment where processes continue to evolve Strong professional judgment and an appropriate level of skepticism Highly Preferred Experience & interest in cannabis. We will give particular consideration to candidates with experience in cannabis, manufacturing, CPG, or another inventory-intensive business, especially those who have worked with: Inventory accounting and reconciliations Manufacturing and production accounting Cost of goods sold Raw materials, WIP, and finished goods Inventory variance and wastage analysis Excise or other regulated-industry requirements Third-party manufacturers or co-packers Systems & Technology Experience with QuickBooks Online is strongly preferred. Experience with payroll platforms, expense management systems, ERP systems, and reporting or BI tools is an asset. You don't need to have worked with every system we use. You do need to be someone who can learn new systems quickly, understand how data flows between them, and recognize when the output doesn't make sense. Where This Role Is Going This position is deliberately being hired at the Senior Accountant level with a defined path toward Accounting Manager. During the initial transition period, you'll work alongside the current Director of Finance to develop a deep understanding of the business. From there, the expectation is that you progressively take over the function rather than remain in a supporting role. Within approximately six months, we want you to be capable of leading the accounting function independently — owning the close, payroll, cash flow, inventory accounting, reporting, compliance, processes, and day-to-day financial operations. We're looking for someone who wants that responsibility. The right person is someone who catches things other people miss, follows a discrepancy until they understand it, takes ownership without needing to be asked, and cares deeply about the integrity of the numbers. What's In It For You? A clear path to Accounting Manager A fully remote environment built on accountability A role that can get bigger as you do Health benefits
