About The Role Ring is seeking a highly skilled Software Development Engineer to join the Persistent Connection Service team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining the core socket services that facilitate device connectivity for millions of Ring devices worldwide. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across software, firmware, and product domains, leveraging AWS technologies to address complex distributed systems challenges. The Persistent Connection Service is a mission-critical component that maintains persistent, reliable connections between devices and the cloud, enabling real-time two-way communication essential for device functionality and security. Your contributions will directly impact the scalability, availability, and resilience of Ring’s infrastructure, supporting the company’s mission to keep families safe and connected through innovative smart home solutions. Qualifications 5+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship) Proficiency in at least one programming language with 5+ years of experience Extensive experience in system design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scalability Experience in leading design initiatives or managing engineering teams as a mentor or tech lead Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent field Familiarity with full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, testing, and deployment Experience working with distributed systems, fault-tolerant architectures, and cloud services such as AWS Responsibilities Design and implement high-throughput backend services supporting millions of devices with stringent uptime requirements Develop extensible data models and services that form the foundation of Ring’s device connectivity ecosystem Establish and promote engineering best practices to ensure code quality, reliability, and maintainability Architect scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems utilizing AWS services to handle increasing device operations Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into robust technical solutions that improve customer experience and security Lead operational initiatives including monitoring, alerting, automated testing, and incident response to maintain service health Participate in technical decision-making processes that influence the architecture of Ring's device platform and future products Benefits Comprehensive health insurance coverage including medical, dental, and vision plans Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) and Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP) Paid time off and holidays to support work-life balance Opportunities for professional growth and development within a leading technology company Inclusive and diverse work environment that values innovation and collaboration Resources and support for health and well-being, including workplace accommodations if needed Equal Opportunity Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity in its workforce.
