Job purpose: The Intermediate Accountant assumes a pivotal role within our accounting department, taking on increased responsibilities in financial accounting and reporting processes. With a focus on optimizing efficiency and accuracy, this position contributes to the development and implementation of accounting strategies and initiatives to support the company's growth trajectory. Duties and responsibilities: Coordinate with Accounts Payable clerk, including verifying accuracy of vendor invoices and employee expenses. Prepare and file sales tax and GST return for Canada. Prepare biweekly cash flow reports to monitor cash on hand, assist in the projection of cash inflows and outflows and propose transfers to address cash demands. Assist Accounts Receivable activities, including client onboarding, reviewing of contracts and client invoicing, and managing outstanding balances. Coordinate month-end closing procedures, preparing journal entries, reconciliations, cost allocations and accruals for various accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Analyze financial data and provide insights to stakeholders, identifying trends, variances, and areas for improvement. Support during external audits, assisting with requests and providing necessary documentation and explanations. Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the accounting function, leveraging technology and AI to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Support members of the accounting team and provide guidance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects and initiatives, leveraging financial expertise to achieve organizational objectives. Assist with preparing Budget Vs Actual reporting. Qualifications, Abilities, and Skills Required: Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. Experience: 3-5 years of progressive experience in professional accounting roles. Key Competencies and Skills: Proficiency in accounting principles and financial reporting requirements, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights. Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively. Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve issues and implement solutions proactively. Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a drive for continuous improvement and excellence. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and experience with accounting software. Netsuite experience is an asset. Knowledge of US GAAP principles preferred.
