Accounting Expert Position: Accounting Expert Type: Hourly Contract Compensation: $80 –$100/hour Location: Remote About the Opportunity This opportunity is for experienced Accounting professionals with strong hands-on knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, accounting close processes, and professional accounting workflows. You'll apply your accounting expertise to evaluate AI-generated work on realistic accounting tasks, assess whether conclusions are accurate and properly supported, and identify errors, unsupported assumptions, or incomplete work. Accounting Knowledge Required Financial Reporting & Close Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP financial statements, period-end close, and financial reporting processes. Experience with reconciliations, substantive analytics, and tie-outs to source documentation. Understanding of subledger-to-general-ledger reconciliations and the implications of periods being open, locked, or reopened. Judgment & Evaluation Strong understanding of materiality, including evaluating accounting errors and misstatements. Ability to assess adjusting journal entries and their related effects, including deferred tax implications. Ability to distinguish between posted ledger entries, draft entries, unposted batches, and working-paper adjustments. Technical Standards & Estimates Working knowledge of key U.S. GAAP standards, including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 350/360, ASC 326, and ASC 805. Understanding of income taxes, credit losses, impairment, leases, revenue recognition, and business combinations. Experience evaluating reserves, allowances, and significant accounting estimates. Documentation & Evidence Understanding of professional workpaper and accounting memo standards, including cross-referencing, sign-offs, and review-ready documentation. Strong ability to evaluate evidence provenance and determine whether figures, citations, procedures, and conclusions are adequately supported. Tools & Systems Comfortable working with professional accounting and financial systems, including audit and engagement platforms, GL/ERP systems, and BI/reporting tools. Experience with tools such as CaseWare, NetSuite, Power BI, or comparable platforms is preferred. Key Responsibilities Review AI-generated attempts at realistic accounting tasks and determine whether conclusions are correct, complete, and adequately supported. Verify that accounting work has actually been completed and recorded, including posted entries, documented findings, and finalized deliverables. Identify fabricated, overstated, or unsupported work, including invented evidence, unperformed procedures, and unsupported financial figures. Evaluate whether the appropriate accounting methodology was applied to the correct problem. Assess the completeness, accuracy, and professional quality of accounting deliverables. Apply a verify-before-finalize approach when evaluating accounting work. Provide clear, specific agree/disagree rationales explaining the strengths, weaknesses, and errors identified in each attempt. Required Qualifications 3+ years of professional accounting experience in one or more of the following areas: External Audit Controllership / Technical Accounting FP&A Tax Current or recent hands-on experience working under U.S. GAAP. Strong professional judgment and the ability to quickly identify unsupported figures, incorrectly applied accounting standards, material errors, and incomplete deliverables. CPA qualification or active pursuit of CPA certification is preferred. Experience at a Big Four accounting firm, public accounting firm, corporate accounting organization, or equivalent professional environment. Comfortable working with accounting software, financial statements, supporting schedules, and related documentation. Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
