JOB TYPE Legal Assistant Job Type: Full-time, Edmonton Office REQUIREMENTS AND CANDIDATE ASSETS The ideal candidate will: Have a Legal Assistant Diploma or Certificate; Have at least 2 years of experience with Litigation and Wills and Estates Have developed professional communication skills; Have strong organizational skills with an emphasis on attention to detail; Have a positive attitude and willing to take initiative; Able to provide fulsome support to more than 1 lawyer; and Is self-motivated and can work independently but also values in a team-based environment. RESPONSIBILITIES Preparing and typing correspondence, pleadings, etc; Arranging for court filing of documents; Preparing and maintaining a diarizing system for court dates, questionings, meetings and appointments; Tracking the lawyer’s billing statistics, including retainers received and overdue/unpaid accounts; Processing all relevant incoming and outgoing mail; Scheduling appointments and meetings and preparing documentation for those appointments and meetings; Assisting clients over the phone and via email with requests for updates on file matters and information on billing matters; Scheduling court runners and couriers; Maintaining client files in paper and electronic form; Helping cover reception telephones; and Assisting couriers and other guests that attend the office from time to time.
