Job Description: Work Arrangement: This position is based in Vancouver, British Columbia and will support lawyers and legal teams handling Alberta-based litigation matters, including files originating from Calgary and Edmonton. As TD Insurance establishes its new Vancouver office location, colleagues hired into these roles will initially work primarily remotely. Once permanent office space has been secured and operational, colleagues will transition to TD's hybrid work model, which currently includes a minimum of three days per week in the office. Reporting to the Legal Office Supervisor/Senior Manager of Legal Support, assists the Lawyers handling P & C Insurance Legal Matters, representing TD Insurance or its Policyholders in civil litigation and no fault/accident benefits matters involving claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injury or property damage. While based in Vancouver, the role will support lawyers and legal teams handling Alberta matters and maintain a close and highly responsive relationship to the day-to-day activities of the lawyer(s). GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Reviews and analyzes new file assignments, organizes file contents, and prepares summary memoranda of medical, investigation and all documentary productions received. Updates/posts in electronic systems all relevant work completed on a file. Prepares affidavit of documents for review by Lawyer and arranges and manages undertakings chart. Organizes and prepares files for discovery/questioning. Follows up on undertakings and production requests. Prepares document briefs for expert reviews and drafts motions. Other duties as instructed by the Lawyers, which may vary by jurisdiction. Remains current with developments in the law; understands medical, scientific, construction, product liability, engineering issues and defences involved with such cases. JOB REQUIREMENTS - SKILLS AND KEY COMPETENCIES Education Paralegal/Law Clerk diploma/certificate from a recognized educational institution or equivalent work experience at a reputable law firm or legal department. Experience 1-5 years paralegal/law clerk experience or equivalent. Background in insurance defence litigation, including personal injury and accident benefit claims (preferred), and/or general litigation experience. Knowledge Knowledge of legal and court documents and procedures. Knowledge of standard office equipment and word processing. Special Abilities Excellent oral and written communication. Ability to communicate effectively with insured clients, claims representative and court/tribunal staff. Excellent legal drafting skills and eye for detail. Motivated self-starter with ability to work productively under pressure and deliver business results. Strong interpersonal & client service skills; professional and positive demeanour. Superior organization & priority setting skills, strong work ethic and ability to mutli-task.
