Job summary
Position Summary The Senior Automation Developer will be responsible for identifying, designing, developing, and implementing test automation solutions to improve software quality and testing efficiency. The resource will work closely with QA analysts, software developers, architects, product owners, and other stakeholders to develop effective test strategies, automate functional and non-functional testing, support DevOps processes, and improve overall QA practices. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in test automation, evaluate automation tools and technologies, troubleshoot testing and production issues, and ensure that automation assets are properly documented, source-controlled, and supported by appropriate disaster recovery processes. Key Responsibilities Identify opportunities to automate software development and testing processes. Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated QA tests to validate application functionality. Design and develop test automation scripts and frameworks using established automation technologies such as Selenium. Design and develop automation solutions using emerging technologies, including AI-based testing capabilities where appropriate. Review and continuously improve test automation approaches, frameworks, processes, and standards. Analyze QA, DevOps, and testing processes and recommend improvements and best practices. Provide technical support for test automation tools and frameworks. Evaluate test automation tools and technologies and provide recommendations. Work closely with QA analysts, developers, architects, product owners, and other stakeholders to establish effective test plans based on business and technical requirements. Translate functional, business, and system requirements into effective test cases and test execution plans. Create and maintain test data according to approved test plans. Analyze test results, perform retesting, and ensure expected results are achieved. Participate in walkthroughs, user reviews, and acceptance activities to ensure client requirements are met. Validate testing criteria in production/live environments and support user sign-off for implementation. Track and resolve testing issues, production defects, and other IT problems affecting quality. Ensure test automation assets are maintained under source control and appropriately documented. Ensure appropriate disaster recovery procedures are established for test automation solutions. Participate in Sprint Retrospectives and identify opportunities to improve QA practices. Prepare test results, performance reports, security testing results, and other QA documentation. Support successful deployment and validation of releases in production environments. Required Qualifications Public Sector Experience 5+ years of experience working with federal, provincial, or broader public-sector healthcare providers. Experience working on public-sector health-related projects. Experience working on large, complex IT healthcare projects. Knowledge of Public Sector Enterprise Architecture artifacts, processes, and practices. Experience producing technical documentation aligned with industry standards. Knowledge of public-sector I&IT project management methodologies and PMI standards. Knowledge of Ministry IT project approval processes and requirements. Experience working with Public Sector Unified I&IT Project Methodology, Enterprise Architecture, Gating processes, and OPS Standard Systems Development Methodologies. QA, Test Automation & Testing 10+ years of experience in QA, test automation, and software testing, including: Identifying opportunities for automation within software development and testing processes. Designing, developing, and executing automated QA tests to validate application functionality. Designing and developing test automation frameworks and scripts using established tools and technologies such as Selenium. Designing and developing automation solutions using emerging technologies, including AI-based test automation. Identifying, documenting, and tracking bugs, defects, and quality issues. Installing and configuring applications and databases relevant to automation and testing. Applying testing methodologies within object-oriented environments. Working within both traditional and Agile delivery teams using standard QA, DevOps, and testing processes. Experience with at least one programming language. Experience with enterprise-level performance testing tools such as LoadRunner, including scripting, scenario design, execution, monitoring, and analysis. Performing functional and non-functional testing of: Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) solutions In-house web applications HL7/FHIR-based web services RESTful APIs JSON/XML interfaces Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) Reporting and Business Intelligence solutions Integration components Extensions and enhancements Testing COTS patches, new releases, enhancements, acceptance criteria, and regression scenarios. Testing security components using technologies such as SAML and JWT. Creating comprehensive system testing documentation, including: Test strategies Test plans Test cases/use cases Test scripts Test results Performing API and messaging-layer testing using tools such as Postman, SOAP UI, or programming languages. Using SQL and other query languages for data retrieval, validation, and ad-hoc testing. Performing accessibility testing for websites, web content, and mobile applications against WCAG 2.0 and supporting AODA requirements. Preparing performance and security testing results for defect reviews with clients, partners, and project teams. Testing Business Intelligence solutions, including: Data setup and integration Data validation Analytical reports Ad-hoc reporting Dashboards Data accuracy, completeness, and integrity Validating successful production deployments and preparing release testing reports. Defect Management & QA Coordination 7+ years of experience with: Identifying, documenting, and managing issues and risks. Creating and maintaining defect logs and defect summary reports using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and TestRail. Updating tasks, deliverables, and project status. Participating in QA, project, and cross-functional team meetings. Prioritizing test execution based on business priorities, defect trends, and available testing windows. Managing testing challenges related to shared environments, resources, and test data. Participating in defect walkthroughs, triage sessions, and issue-resolution activities. General Skills Strong technical leadership and ability to identify areas for improvement and recommend practical solutions.
