About The Role Our client is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (Oracle) to support the Solaris Evergreening Project, a high-priority initiative within the public sector focused on modernizing legacy database infrastructure. This role will lead the migration of Oracle databases from end-of-life Solaris infrastructure to supported platforms, including upgrades to Oracle 19c or higher, while ensuring performance, security, and operational stability. The applications will remain as-is this role is strictly focused on database and operating system migration, optimization, and administration. You will work closely with technical teams and stakeholders to deliver time-sensitive, enterprise-scale database migrations that enable broader portfolio modernization. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and administer Oracle database environments including physical database design, optimization, capacity planning, and performance tuning Maintain and monitor Oracle 10g, 11g, 12c, and 19c databases in large, multi-tenant environments Lead and execute enterprise Oracle migration initiatives, including upgrades to Oracle 19c or higher Design, build, and configure Oracle Database Servers on Solaris, Linux, and Windows platforms Perform database installation, migration, backup, recovery, patching, and upgrades Ensure databases meet performance requirements for enterprise applications (e.g., Siebel, Java, ArcGIS, APEX) Implement and maintain database security, auditing, and compliance controls Provide technical expertise during architecture and design phases of database solutions Support both on-premise and cloud-based (GoCloud) database environments Implement and support advanced Oracle features such as TDE, Data Guard, RAC, OEM 13c, and OMS Conduct complex systems analysis, impact assessments, and implementation planning Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents and production issues Document technical designs, procedures, and migration activities to support knowledge transfer Communicate technical risks, mitigation strategies, and recommendations to stakeholders Must-Have Qualifications 10+ years of experience in Database Administration / Database Analysis Strong hands-on experience with Oracle database optimization, capacity planning, migration, backup, and recovery Proven experience managing Oracle 10g/11g/12c/19c databases in enterprise, multi-tenant environments Experience migrating databases from end-of-life platforms to supported versions Expertise in Oracle database security, auditing, and privacy controls Experience designing and administering databases on Solaris, Linux, and Windows Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proven ability to work collaboratively and meet tight deadlines Nice-to-Have Qualifications Experience with distributed data systems, middleware, and gateways Exposure to data warehouse technologies, Oracle OBIEE, data marts, or ERP systems Experience with cybersecurity vulnerability remediation Knowledge of Ontario Government Enterprise Architecture and public sector standards Experience with CASE tools, enterprise architecture models, and impact analysis Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern infrastructure modernization initiatives Experience supporting vendor relationships and enterprise database support services
