Its platform handles payment collection, accounting and reporting for thousands of institutions across North America, processing large volumes of transactions every day. The business is in a growth phase and is investing in its cloud platform. The work sits where money movement meets software, so correctness, security and reliability come first. The Role You’ll join the payments team as a senior backend engineer. Your work covers the services, APIs and data that move money through the platform. This role suits someone who finds the real problem behind a ticket and fixes the root cause, not someone who waits to be told what to build. The core stack is C#/.NET. Strong engineers from other backend languages who are keen to learn it will be seriously considered. What You Will Do Design, build and improve the backend services that process payments, with a focus on accuracy, traceability and handling failures predictably Make architecture and design decisions for a high-volume platform, including where event-driven patterns fit Find production problems, trace them to the root cause, and improve monitoring so issues surface earlier Model and tune relational data for busy transactional workloads, balancing speed with data integrity Work with product and design to shape scope, weigh trade-offs and flag risks early, using AI coding tools to deliver faster What You Bring Senior-level backend experience on production SaaS systems, with a track record of solving problems rather than just closing tickets Hands-on payments experience, such as payment processing, gateways, payouts or reconciliation, where errors cost real money C#/.NET experience, or deep experience in another backend language plus a real appetite to learn .NET Production cloud experience (Azure preferred, any major provider considered) and strong SQL and relational database skills Regular use of AI tools such as Copilot or Claude to speed up your work while you stay in charge of the thinking; React is a plus but not required Why This Role This role puts you at the centre of a payments platform that real institutions rely on every day, where good engineering judgement shows up directly in the results. The team values how you think and solve problems over whether you know one specific framework. It’s a hybrid role based in Toronto.
