Job summary
The Manager, Communications and Marketing provides strategic leadership for ASEBP's communications, marketing, and brand activities. The manager is accountable for developing and executing communication and marketing strategies that advance organizational priorities, support business objectives, strengthen stakeholder relationships and protect ASEBP's reputation. Working collaboratively across the organization, the Manager serves as a trusted advisor to leaders on strategic communications, change management and marketing issues. The role also leads a team of communications and marketing professionals responsible for delivering effective internal and external communications, marketing initiatives and corporate messaging that enhance the member, client and employee experience. Your Key Responsibilities Ensure the operations of the department align with ASEBP’s strategic direction, objectives and culture set forth by the ASEBP trustees and the executive team. Develop and implement communication and marketing strategies that support ASEBP's strategic plan and organizational priorities. Identify emerging communication trends, risks and opportunities and provide recommendations to leadership. Lead long-term communications planning to enhance stakeholder understanding, engagement and trust in ASEBP. Ensure communications initiatives contribute to organizational goals, member experience objectives and business outcomes. Manage all aspects of day-to-day operations, ensuring excellent service in communications and marketing programs. This includes team management, process improvement, risk mitigation and resource allocation. Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures that enable the optimum performance of the department in support of ASEBP operations. Collaboratively lead the development of an organizational strategic communications plan for ASEBP, which will include media relations, crisis communications and ASEBP digital properties. Oversee the development, production, implementation and measurement of all internal and external communications. Develop and manage project schedules and budgets. Oversee the writing, editing, design, production and quality control of internal and external communications programs and activities for all media. Ensure systems are in place to distribute communications effectively. Write, edit and develop communications materials as required. Ensure adherence to communication styles and corporate identity standards and guidelines. Monitor external communications to ensure standards are maintained. Establish measurement criteria during the communications planning process and evaluate internal and external communications program effectiveness. Provide guidance and support to the team, ensuring they have the tools, training and resources to execute their work efficiently and effectively. Manage team workload volumes and delegate accordingly. Oversee and continuously improve department workflows and processes. Manage budget and resource allocation within the department. Provide communications information and expertise throughout ASEBP as required. Allocate communications resources to support ASEBP wide initiatives. Provide expertise to other departments or projects as needed. Provide strategic communications counsel to the Executive Leadership Team and Trustees. Monitor emerging issues and assess potential reputational risks to ASEBP. Leadership and team development. Ensure the team structure is optimized for service excellence. In conjunction with Human Resource Services (HR), recruit, interview, orient and train new employees. Ensure team members have the knowledge and skills to excel in their roles and grow within their career pathways. Support the Director in determining performance standards and monitoring quality of work. Foster a high-performing, engaged team through ongoing coaching, development, performance conversations and career growth opportunities. Ensure the team is updated on organizational policies, team processes and safety protocols. In conjunction with HR, actively identify and create opportunities for employee learning and development. Liaise with other departments to foster strong working relationships, seamless cross-departmental processes and meet organizational goals. Work collaboratively across all divisions to ensure organizational effectiveness. Consult and collaborate with other teams/departments on development, improvement, prioritization, implementation and evaluation of cross-divisional business processes. Build and maintain strong relationships with ASEBP external stakeholders. Analyze stakeholder feedback, engagement data and communication effectiveness metrics to inform organizational priorities and continuous improvement. Identify stakeholder needs and emerging issues and translate insights into communication and engagement strategies. Anticipate stakeholder impacts and provide recommendations to support organizational objectives. Communicate and negotiate with promotional partners as needed for joint marketing activities. Maintain and enhance community relations by attending events as needed. Liaise with, and provide or present information to other stakeholders and partners as needed. Your Education And Experience Completion of a university degree in communications or a related field. A minimum of five to ten years of progressively responsible leadership experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field Experience working with the Alberta education sector and in group benefits is considered an asset. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Your Abilities Knowledge of the health benefits and disability management industry is an asset. Transformational leadership skills, including strong emotional intelligence and the ability to effectively give and receive feedback. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships at all levels and communicate with various stakeholders. Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and implement business plans and initiatives. Exceptional prioritization and time management skills. Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to effectively communicate and present information to a variety of audiences. Strong customer service skills including the ability to resolve issues in a fast-paced and sometimes politically-sensitive environment. Strong analytical abilities.
