Role Overview The Quality Assurance Manager oversees all food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance programs within the chocolate manufacturing facility. This role ensures that products consistently meet internal standards, customer expectations, and all CFIA, HACCP, and BRC Global Food Safety requirements. The QA Manager leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems, manages audits, and drives a culture of food safety across the organization. Key Responsibilities Quality & Food Safety Program Management Lead, maintain, and continuously improve the facility’s Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring alignment with CFIA, HACCP, and BRC standards. Oversee the development, verification, and validation of HACCP plans, including hazard analysis, CCP monitoring, and corrective actions. Manage all BRC certification activities, including documentation, internal audits, gap assessments, and audit readiness. Ensure compliance with all CFIA regulatory requirements, including labeling, traceability, allergen management, and GMPs. Maintain and update SOPs, policies, and quality documentation to reflect regulatory changes and operational improvements. Keep abreast of changes in food safety regulations and industry best practices, communicating these changes effectively across the organization. Audits, Inspections & Compliance Lead internal audits and coordinate external audits (BRC, CFIA, customer audits). Prepare audit documentation, corrective action plans, and follow-up verification activities. Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure adherence to sanitation, hygiene, and GMP standards. Oversee environmental monitoring programs, including pathogen testing, allergen controls, and air/water quality checks. Production Support & Continuous Improvement Partner with Production, Maintenance, and Operations to resolve quality issues and implement preventive measures. Investigate non-conformances, consumer complaints, and deviations; lead root cause analysis and corrective action implementation. Monitor and analyze quality metrics, trends, and KPIs to drive continuous improvement. Support new product development with quality and regulatory guidance, including ingredient approval, labeling compliance, and shelf-life validation. Leadership & Training Champion a proactive food safety culture through communication, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration. Deliver food safety, HACCP, allergen, sanitation, and GMP training across all departments. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3–5+ years of experience in food manufacturing quality assurance, preferably in confectionery, chocolate, or other similar-risk food categories. Demonstrated experience managing HACCP programs and BRC certification. Strong knowledge of CFIA regulations, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), and GFSI. Technical Skills Proficiency in HACCP development, validation, and verification. Strong understanding of GMPs, sanitation programs, allergen controls, traceability, and environmental monitoring. Experience with document control systems, CAPA processes, and quality data analysis. Familiarity with laboratory testing methods (microbiological, chemical, physical). Leadership & Soft Skills Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities. Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and decision-making skills. Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and maintain composure under audit pressure. High attention to detail and commitment to food safety excellence.
