What You Will Do Clinical Care responsibilities will include (but not limited to): Establishment of therapeutic relationships with patients and families to facilitate assessment, diagnosis, management, and therapeutic interventions of patients, using best practices, and to the NP scope of practice; Order, interpret, and communicate diagnostic tests and laboratory results Assess patients' needs and initiate appropriate referrals to specialists, allied health professionals, and community resources; Monitor the status of referrals and follow up on specialist recommendations to ensure continuity of care; Deliver evidence-based counseling on nutrition, physical activity, weight management, smoking cessation, sleep, and stress management; Optimization of patient's health conditions; Prevention, early identification, and management of health conditions and diseases Promoting and performing safety initiatives Participation and leadership of direct/indirect patient care activities including but not limited to patient/family and/or staff education, Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support the development of preventive care programs Basic Requirements Master degree in Nursing; Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario; Current certification/licensure as a Nurse Practitioner RN (Extended Class); Two (2) years in an acute care; Minimum of 3-5 years relevant clinical experience working in acute cardiac care with extensive cardiology patient care environments; Licensed to prescribe controlled substances; Experience in working independently within an interdisciplinary team; Member of RNAO and NPAO; Demonstrated organizational, conceptual and leadership skills; Demonstrated advanced practice skills and competence in interpersonal relationships, problem solving, collaboration and innovation; Effective and concise communication, both orally and in writing; Eligible to work in Canada. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working as a Nurse Practitioner; Certificate in Cardiovascular Nursing; Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced). The Ottawa Hospital uses a 5-level language proficiency scale to define the required level of language skills in English and in French for positions at the Hospital, and to evaluate job candidate language skills. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients using best practices within the NP scope of practice. Key duties include ordering diagnostic tests, providing evidence-based counseling, and leading quality improvement initiatives for patient care.

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Nursing, be registered as a Nurse Practitioner (Extended Class) with the College of Nurses of Ontario, and have 3-5 years of acute cardiac care experience. Proficiency in English and French is preferred, along with a license to prescribe controlled substances.
