Job Description: The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis. Accountabilities: Assist with promoting, coordinating and overseeing the activities of Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker staff and/or volunteers. Assist with overseeing the operations of the Christmas Kettle campaign including scheduling of staff and/or volunteers. Assist with the orientation and performance management of kettle worker staff and/or volunteers. Assist the Christmas Kettle Coordinator with scheduling kettle staff and/or volunteers and responds to emergency absences, etc. Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites. Coordinate the delivery and pick-up of kettles to/from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations. May deliver and pick-up kettles in an emergency situation. Host at a kettle as required ensuring necessary coverage for breaks, etc. Ensure that kettle locations have adequate supplies of literature etc. Assist with transferring the kettle contents into the deposit bags for processing. Complete shift reminder phone calls and/or voice mail messages for volunteers Perform other related duties as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a temporary full time position based on 40 hours per week. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements. Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner. Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification. Local travel is associated with this position. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision, and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completed High School or equivalent. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset. Experience in office administration. Experience with general office equipment and must have strong skills and experience using word processing (WORD); spread sheet use (EXCEL). Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, provide an original copy of current driver’s abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Skills and Capabilities: Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced office setting; attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-motivated/disciplined. Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change. Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement. Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Honest, courteous, and punctual; prepared to act in the best interest of employer. Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner. Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution. Attentive listening skills for the purpose of supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a satisfactory driver abstract. The role calls for office administration experience, proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, and flexibility to work varied shifts; community-program experience is an asset.
