Job Posting (Internal/External) Relief Worker Salary: $27.20 per hour Hours: On call (up to 8-hour shifts: 8:30am-4:40pm M-F,) Start date: Immediately Bargaining unit position ABOUT THE STOP: The Stop Community Food Centre is a leading-edge and nationally respected non-profit organization that has been providing innovative programs and advocacy to address problems of hunger and inequality for over 40 years (www.thestop.org). The Stop’s mission is to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community and challenges inequality. The Opportunity: The purpose of the Relief Worker position is to assist, on a casual basis with the operation of the Drop-in, Food Bank and other programs in the event of staff absence. This position works with a team of other Stop staff and program volunteers. Responsibilities: Work with drop-in and/or food bank / kitchen staff / café / GFM/ administration/urban agriculture/community kitchens/ advocacy to fulfill required duties and aid in the smooth operation of daily programming while, providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for participants. Assist in the maintenance of daily records, program logs, inventory checks, cleaning, organization, etc. Assist with food and space preparations for breakfast and lunch services (prepare coffee, any necessary food preparation, etc.) Assist staff with intake at food bank front desk, giving out numbers, filing and other administrative tasks Assist in receiving deliveries and ensuring items are stored in an appropriate manner Ensure programming reflects The Stop’s policies and procedures (e.g. Healthy Food Philosophy and respect policies) Assist with providing directions as needed to volunteer Assist staff with conflict resolution and crisis intervention as requested Support program participants by providing necessary referrals to community resources and assisting with questions and concerns as they arise. Provide polite and responsive customer service; ensure that service delivery is guided by the Stop’s policies and procedures (ie. Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Harassment) and reflects the mission, vision and values of the organization. Qualifications: 1 year experience working or volunteering in a social service environment or equivalent experience Self-motivated and able to work constructively as a member of a team. Excellent interpersonal, time management and communication skills. Knowledge of social services and community resources Experience with customer service and demonstrated ability to work within a diverse community. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work in a fast-paced environment and be on your feet for several hours a day
