Position Overview Our client is a successful and highly entrepreneurial real estate development firm specializing in purpose-built, urban mid-market rental housing. Currently experiencing significant growth across multiple operating businesses, they are seeking a Director, Finance to drive the evolution of their finance function and create a stronger, more sophisticated operating model to support future growth. Reporting to the President, the Director of Finance will serve as the organization's most senior internal finance leader. This role will oversee the day-to-day finance function and lead the continued development of a best-in-class finance operation. The successful candidate will be accountable for the integrity of the financial reporting, cash visibility, internal controls, management reporting, multi-entity accounting, and the ongoing enhancement of finance processes and systems. Role Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day finance function, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and insightful financial information across the organization. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, ensuring strong financial controls, reporting integrity, and compliance with established accounting policies. Prepare and review monthly management reporting packages, providing meaningful variance analysis and actionable insights to support business decision-making. Own cash management, liquidity reporting, and cash flow forecasting, providing clear visibility into the organization's financial position. Direct the preparation and review of financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules across multiple legal entities. Establish and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and finance processes to support a scalable and well-governed finance function. Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and settlement processes while ensuring accuracy across the group structure. Mentor, develop, and support the finance team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement. Partner closely with the Founder and Fractional CFO by providing high-quality financial analysis to support strategic planning, capital allocation, and key business initiatives. Champion finance transformation initiatives, including process optimization, automation, systems enhancements, and improvements to reporting capabilities. Coordinate external audit, tax, banking, and other professional advisor relationships, ensuring the timely completion of all deliverables. Develop and maintain robust financial policies, documentation, and standardized procedures to improve consistency, efficiency, and business continuity. Collaborate with operational leaders across the organization to strengthen financial visibility, improve decision-making, and support the company's continued growth. Contribute to special projects and strategic initiatives as required to support the evolving needs of the business. Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance management to the finance team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture. Undertake ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as required to support evolving business needs and strategic initiatives. Desired Qualifications 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leading a financial reporting team. CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting designation). Strong knowledge of the full accounting cycle, including financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, consolidations, and internal controls. Hands-on experience managing finance operations across multiple legal entities, including intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and cash flow management. Track record of improving finance processes, implementing controls, and driving systems enhancements within a growing organization. Exposure to cash management, liquidity reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting is considered an asset. Background in real estate development, construction, or a related project-based industry is considered an asset; experience within an entrepreneurial, high-growth environment is strongly preferred.
