LEAD UNDERGROUND MAINTENANCE EXCELLENCE Thyssen Mining is seeking an experienced Master Mechanic to provide technical leadership and support for underground mining equipment maintenance. This senior role serves as the site's mechanical subject matter expert, ensuring equipment reliability, mentoring maintenance personnel, and driving preventative maintenance initiatives that support safe and productive mining operations. The successful candidate will possess extensive underground mining equipment experience, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY & MAINTENANCE * Oversee the repair and maintenance of underground mobile equipment and complex mechanical systems. * Diagnose and resolve advanced mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain issues. * Track equipment utilization, availability, and reliability. * Ensure preventative maintenance programs are effectively planned and executed. * Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve equipment performance and reduce downtime. TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP * Serve as the primary technical resource for maintenance personnel. * Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to mechanics and apprentices. * Share best practices and support ongoing skills development within the maintenance team. * Assist in troubleshooting recurring equipment failures and implementing corrective actions. * Inspect and verify the quality of repairs completed by maintenance personnel. INVENTORY & RESOURCE MANAGEMENT * Monitor and maintain inventory levels for critical parts and consumables. * Coordinate parts ordering to align with preventative maintenance schedules and operational requirements. * Support equipment lifecycle planning and maintenance forecasting. * Ensure maintenance tools and diagnostic equipment are properly maintained and available. SAFETY & COMPLIANCE * Promote and maintain a strong safety culture. * Ensure compliance with company policies, site procedures, OEM recommendations, and regulatory requirements. * Participate in hazard assessments, safety meetings, incident investigations, and workplace inspections. * Support safe work practices and ensure maintenance activities meet quality and safety standards. DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING * Maintain detailed maintenance records, repair histories, and inspection reports. * Prepare equipment performance and maintenance reports. * Track recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions to improve equipment reliability. * Support maintenance planning and scheduling activities. QUALIFICATIONS * Journeyperson Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, or equivalent trade certification. * Minimum 8 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience. * Extensive experience maintaining underground mining equipment. * Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. * Strong knowledge of hydraulic, diesel, electrical, and drivetrain systems. * Experience with maintenance management systems and diagnostic software. * Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. * Valid driver's license. * Experience working in underground hard rock mining. * Previous experience leading maintenance teams or mentoring apprentices. * OEM training on underground mining equipment. * Experience with Sandvik, Epiroc, MacLean, CAT, Komatsu, or equivalent underground mining equipment. * Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
