Job Description We’re looking for a First Mile Transportation Manager - 12 Month Contract to lead a critical national transportation network, overseeing 40,000-50,000 annual linehaul movements across Canada. In this high-impact role, you’ll drive the efficient flow of products between Distribution Centers, Service Centers, and Cross Docks while optimizing transportation costs and delivering strong operational performance. You'll also play a key role in managing transportation equipment across the country, ensuring availability to support uninterrupted operations. What You’ll Do Develop and execute first mile transportation strategies across Canada to support service, capacity, and cost objectives. Analyze lane performance and transportation costs to optimize network efficiency and equipment utilization. Monitor carrier KPIs and implement improvement plans to enhance on-time performance and service levels. Lead safety, compliance, and quality initiatives, including audits and carrier reviews. Manage inbound and outbound transportation scheduling with 3PL partners to improve operational efficiency. Support peak volume planning to ensure seamless product flow across the network. Drive transportation optimization initiatives, including dynamic routing and network enhancement programs. Partner with IT teams to improve transportation systems and routing tools. Manage carrier relationships and performance to minimize delays and service disruptions. Collaborate with Distribution Centers to maximize load utilization and reduce transportation costs. Establish and maintain SOPs and continuous improvement initiatives across the first mile network. Coach, mentor, and support team members while providing day-to-day operational leadership. About You 5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or retail distribution, including 2+ years of leadership experience managing hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development. Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field; CITT or P.Log. Designation is an asset. Strong knowledge of Canadian transportation operations, carrier networks, costing, regulatory requirements, and transportation industry best practices. Proven leadership, communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels. Demonstrated success leading projects, process improvements, and change management initiatives while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong financial and business acumen, including budgeting, cost management, and assessing operational impacts to support business decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS); bilingualism is considered an asset. Candidates should bring strong knowledge of Canadian transportation operations, carrier networks, costing, and regulations, along with leadership, financial, communication, project management, and TMS skills; CITT or P.Log. designation and bilingualism are assets.
