Job Summary Duties and Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Initial and on-going assessments designed for deaf and hard of hearing students; Assist in screening and selecting students for enrollment in DHH services; Provide instruction and or support to DHH students in the development and maintenance of skills specified in the student’s IEP; Develop transition plans (ITP’s) to move DHH student to targeted career, vocational and life skills; Provide instruction and support in career and vocational education skills in coordination with vocational education staff and/or rehabilitation counselors that coincide with ITP’s; Provide assistance and support to classroom teachers that, as a direct result of hearing impairment, require adaptation; Work as a member of a trans-disciplinary team for planning, assessing, and developing appropriate IEP/ITP goals; Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with students, teachers, staff, parents and other support staff and agencies; Providing in-service/training to students and staff regarding hearing loss and its implications along with the use of amplification equipment and assistive technology; Assist in identifying, developing and implementing appropriate use of resources for instructional application specifically for the DHH population. Job Description / Essential Elements Torrance Unified School District SPECIAL DAY CLASS TEACHER (SPECIAL EDUCATION) ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP Directly responsible to the building principal. Major Duties And Responsibilities Provide instruction and services for handicapped students who have been identified in an Individualized Education Program and are assigned to a special day class. Attend placement/IEP meetings for students who may need the program services of a special day class. Participate in academic testing. Coordinate special education services with the regular school programs to provide students’ mainstreaming opportunities. Monitor student’s progress, coordinate the review and revision of their Individualized Education Programs, and refer students to the IEP team, if appropriate. Consult with appropriate teachers and administrators for the development of prevocational and/or vocational plans for handicapped students. Coordinate and monitor the activities of paraprofessional instructional personnel assigned. Provide information and assistance to students and to their parents. Attend and participate in school faculty meetings, special education staff meetings, and other meetings as required. Maintain professional competence through participation, as directed in inservice activities provided by the District. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of: Techniques and resources utilized in assessing,instructing, and evaluating students. Diagnostic needs, behavioral techniques and appropriate learning materials for classroom use. Developing cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Education: Possession of a valid Education Specialist credential. Must have English Learner Authorization. Requirements / Qualifications Must possess a valid California Deaf and Hard of Hearing teaching credential with ASD. In addition, must have CLAD or English Learner Authorization. CBEST (or other qualifying basic skills requirement as outlined by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing) is required. Requirements

Must hold a valid California Deaf and Hard of Hearing teaching credential with ASD, plus CLAD or English Learner Authorization. A qualifying basic skills requirement such as CBEST is required; applicants must submit transcripts, credential documentation, a signed letter of introduction, two recent signed recommendation letters, and test results or qualifying transcripts.
