Programs include the Summer Youth Camp Program during the summer school break and the After-School Program during the school year. The incumbent identifies and develops daily programs and activities that support children to develop personal competencies such as life skills, self-confidence and self-awareness, social and relationship skills, group interaction and conflict resolution capabilities, problem-solving and leadership skills, and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore TH culture. The incumbent ensures the delivery of programming activities through a mentorship approach with the assistance of TH Elders, Citizens and community supports. An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires. Essential Qualifications: Post-secondary diploma in child and youth care, education, recreation, social work or related field, with one year of relevant work experience; an equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge and skills may be considered. Knowledge of child and youth development, mental wellness and restorative theories and processes. Knowledge of holistic case management and referral processes for local counseling services and supports. Experience or training in the design and delivery of youth recreational programming. Experience coaching or mentoring youth. Knowledge of, and ability to work constructively with, at-risk youth with special needs or behavioural challenges. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, TH structures, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, socio-economic dynamics, challenges and aspirations, basic phrases of the Hän language and the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individuals, families, and communities. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint) and Zoom. Assets: Experience working with pre-adolescent children in a summer camp, outdoor education program, extracurricular or after-school program environment. Experience supervising staff. Training in suicide prevention and intervention. Conditions of Employment: Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Class 5 Driver’s license with clear driver’s abstract, with a Class 4 Driver’s license an asset. Standard First Aid Certification and Remote First Aid (or willingness to obtain).
