Job summary

We are seeking a precise and motivated Floorcovering Installer to join our team. This position is tailored for a professional who holds or is looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE). In this role, you are responsible for the final aesthetic and functional layer of a building's interior. Whether you are a certified Journeyperson or a senior apprentice nearing your final hours, you will be expected to work to the Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS), ensuring that every installation—from moisture testing to final trim—meets the national benchmark for excellence and durability. Core Responsibilities In alignment with the national standards for the Floorcovering Installer trade, your primary duties include: Substrate Assessment & Preparation: Evaluate floor conditions (concrete or wood). Perform moisture and alkalinity tests and apply leveling compounds, underlayments, and membranes to ensure a warrantable surface. Material Layout: Interpret blueprints and specifications to determine the most efficient layout, minimizing waste while ensuring pattern symmetry and correct seam placement. Carpet Installation: Measure, cut, and install commercial and residential carpets using stretch-in (power stretching), direct-glue, or double-glue methods. Execute invisible hand-sewn or heat-bonded seams. Resilient Flooring: Install vinyl (sheet, plank, and tile), linoleum, and rubber flooring. Master heat-welding and flash-coving techniques for healthcare and high-traffic environments. Hardwood & Laminate: Install solid wood, engineered wood, and laminate flooring using nail-down, staple, or floating-floor methods. Finishing Touches: Install transition strips, baseboards, and reducers to provide a professional, finished look. Safety & Environment: Maintain a clean workspace and follow strict OH&S guidelines regarding the safe use of adhesives, solvents, and power tools. Mentorship: If certified, supervise and sign off on the hours of junior apprentices. If finishing requirements, work with our Journeypersons to master Major Work Activities (MWAs) like patterned carpet and specialized heat welding. Qualifications & Requirements Certification Status: Must be a Journeyperson or a Senior Apprentice currently looking to finish their requirements to achieve their Red Seal Endorsement (RSE). Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of different adhesives, trowel notch sizes, and material expansion/contraction properties. Physical Stamina: Ability to spend extended periods kneeling and bending. Must be able to lift and maneuver heavy rolls of carpet or crates of flooring (30kg+). Mathematical Competency: Precision in "Trade Math" for calculating area, waste factors, and complex layout geometry. Attention to Detail: An uncompromising eye for color matching, pattern alignment, and seam quality. Salary: 35 - 45 CAD Per hour
