Position Summary: Trend Micro Research Center is seeking a Vulnerability Research Intern to join our industry-leading research team in Toronto. Trend Micro Research supports a global customer base including leading security product vendors, software and high-tech manufacturers, telecommunications providers, and large enterprise customers with a set of industry-leading technical data feeds, research products, and engineering services. Responsibilities: Research newly discovered security vulnerabilities in a wide range of software products Produce reports describing software vulnerabilities and detection of attack vectors Develop signatures for network traffic-based attack detection Monitor security industry publications, news groups and other online sources for newly discovered security vulnerabilities and emerging threats Collaborate with other vulnerability researchers on research, analysis, and report production Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or related fields of study A strong desire to learn, demonstrated through personal projects or self-directed learning Strong written and verbal communication skills, being able to convey highly technical information in a succinct and accurate way Strong analytical and problem-solving skills demonstrated through past experience Strong knowledge in operating system and computer organization concepts Functional understanding of the OSI reference model, TCP/IP protocol, and higher-level networking protocols Knowledge in two or more of the following languages (Required): C/C++, Java, Assembly language (any flavor) is a plus 2 or more of the following programming language knowledge requirements: Any scripting language such as Python, Ruby, Perl, Lua, or Bash, or, any functional language such as Lisp, Ruby, Haskell, or, any logic programming language such as Prolog Familiarity with *NIX operating systems and the command line interface Preferred Qualifications: Course work in Compilers & Interpreter and Computer Security Ability to analyze and describe security vulnerabilities and attack methods Proven ability to hack software, discover flaws, and suggest improvements, demonstrated through activities such as CTFs, bug bounty programs, and open-source project contribution At Trend Micro, we embrace change, empower people, and encourage innovation in a connected world. Requirements
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Computer Science or a related field with strong knowledge of operating systems and networking. Proficiency in at least two programming languages from the specified lists is required.
