Job Description Excavator Operator – Compost and Off-Site Operations Job Details Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Locations: 21462 Clarke Road North; 3544 Dingman Drive; off-site locations as required Wage Range: $28.00 – $33.85 per hour Position Overview The Heavy Equipment Operator – Compost and Off-Site Operations is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of excavators and other heavy equipment at compost facilities and off-site locations. The successful candidate will have experience operating a variety of heavy machinery, including excavators, front-end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and related equipment. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, equipment maintenance, and compliance with all applicable legislation, as well as company policies and procedures. The Operator will interact with residents, contractors, and team members in a courteous and professional manner and must be willing to travel and work at off-site locations as required. Core Competencies * Time Management * Problem Solving * Accountability and Dependability * Decision making and Judgement * Planning and Organizing * Communication * Teamwork * Attention to detail Key Responsibilities * Operate excavators, horizontal grinders, screening plants, and other heavy equipment as required. * Load materials into walking floor trailers at off-site locations. * Perform demolition work when required. * Operate equipment on various surfaces and in changing site conditions. * Work away from home for multiple days when necessary. * Perform general labour duties as required to support site operations. * Sort materials using a magnet and remove metal from piles using an excavator. * Screen topsoil and compost materials. * Maneuver equipment into loading and unloading positions while following signals from ground crew. * Complete all required documentation, including daily logs, delivery receipts, vehicle inspections, and hours-of-service records. * Clean, lubricate, and perform minor maintenance on equipment. * Conduct pre-operation equipment inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency systems are in proper working order. * Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications and Requirements * High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. * Certification through Skilled Trades Ontario is considered an asset. * Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Heavy Equipment or Excavator Operator (excavator and loader experience preferred). * Ability and willingness to work at out-of-town locations; accommodations and daily per diem provided. * Strong knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and storage practices. * Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. * AZ license is considered an asset. * High level of personal integrity and professionalism. * Ability to remain composed and professional in high-pressure situations. * Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work with minimal supervision. * Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. Working Conditions * Regular hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. * Reports directly to the Operations Manager. * Saturday work may be required based on operational needs. * Overtime available and paid after 44 hours per week. * Frequent travel to off-site locations is required (hotel, food, and off-site per diem provided for overnight stays). * Ability to lift to 50 lbs. * Required use of personal protective equipment (steel-toed safety boots required; additional PPE provided). * Exposure to typical worksite hazards, including dust, noise, odours, and varying weather conditions. * Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, including construction and industrial environments.
