Job Title: Student Researcher Reporting to: Research and Insight Development Coordinator Place of Work: At least 1 shift a week at Student Centre - University of York Students Union (depending on demand, some weeks more time in the office may be required)/ Potential hybrid options Contract: Fixed term 28th September 2026 until 9th May 2027 Hours of Work: Overall annualised hours but will average at around 10 hours per week during term time. Here at York University Students Union, we have an exciting job opportunity for someone to join our Student Voice team as Student Researcher. About The Role To support diversity of student applicants, we now offer the option for applicants to answer the main application form questions using a video submission as an alternative to providing a written response. This is a part-time fixed term role. Employees must be available to work from campus, with the option for some occasional home working if appropriate for the role and with the agreement of their line manager. We offer a competitive hourly wage of £13.45. We are looking for two Student Researchers (part-time student roles) to join the Student Voice Team. Whilst you will be based in Student Voice, you will be working with staff members and teams across the Students’ Union. As a Student Researcher, you will be designing and delivering research projects for the Students’ Union, which sit within our organisational priorities and values. As part of delivering these projects, you will be undertaking data collection through a variety of methods (including surveys, focus groups and interviews), analysing data, and presenting results through both shorter research briefs and longer reports. You will also identify recommendations from research, in co-partnership with students and staff members. You will support our Sabbatical Officers, providing them with relevant insight for their campaigns and guidance/support around data gathering and write-up. You will also support the Research and Insight Development Coordinator with planning and running a number of insight-gathering initiatives throughout the year, ensuring we are hearing from all years of study, and demographic groups. The post holders will be knowledgeable of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR UK) and will also pay particular attention to the confidentiality and sensitivity of student data when conducting research. These roles are a perfect opportunity for a student who is interested in research and insight to develop their skills further within the Students’ Union, which is experiencing an exciting period of transformation.
