Job summary
Junior Architect/Designer About the role Reporting to the Architect Consultant, the successful candidate will be responsible for producing technical drawings, and ensuring that designs meet both aesthetic and functional standards in compliance with building codes and regulations. Because we are a small office the successful candidate will be involved in all aspects including design, production documents, specs and contract administration. Responsibilities Assist in preparing proposal drawings, design concepts, and 3D renderings for feasibility studies. Support the detailed design development, including production of construction documents and specifications. Collaborate with senior architects and consultants to coordinate structural, mechanical and electrical systems within the design. Help evaluate and incorporate environmental, legal and regulatory requirements, including assistance in obtaining necessary approvals. Participate in design-build execution, contributing to design efficiency and constructability reviews. Aid in the preparation of tender documentation and client presentation materials. Conduct research on materials, codes and innovative solutions to support project development. Attend site meetings and contribute to coordination and design review suggestions. Additional duties and responsibilities as required. Candidate Requirements University or College degree in Architecture / Technology OAA designation is considered an asset 1-3 years of relevant experience in architectural or construction environments Highly organized with excellent English communication skills Knowledge of materials and methods of general construction. Strong understanding of building science and detailing Proficient in AutoCAD. Revit and BIM design tools are a perquisite. Experienced with building practices and the Ontario Building Code is an asset Site reviews and contract administration experience is an asset Interested in working on commercial offices & retail, industrial, data centres, mission critical facilities, and interiors. Class G Ontario Driver’s License is an asset Skills Because we are a small office the successful candidate will have involvement in all aspects of the office including design, production documents, specs and contract administration Preparing AutoCAD and Revit-BIM drawings while managing layers, units, scaling, and x refs Design/technical detailing, as required for project execution Select and Resolve materials and methods of general construction Managing project documentation, including emails & shop drawings Develop and manage each project’s Revit model Assist as required with construction administration activities, including shop drawing review, specifications, and site instructions Location & Commitments Urbacon Office – 750 Lakeshore Blvd East.
