Work Model: Hybrid (3 days onsite per week, 2 days remote) Duration: 6 Months (Extension & Conversion Possible) Additional location: Markham, ON Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist / Data Engineer to join a high-performing Financial Crime Risk Management team supporting a large-scale data modernization initiative. This role focuses on data engineering, advanced analytics, data quality, and transaction monitoring, helping to build and enhance enterprise data solutions on Oracle and Azure platforms. This role is not focused on machine learning model development. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and support scalable data engineering and analytics solutions. Perform data exploration, profiling, transformation, and validation on large datasets. Develop and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, analysis, and automation. Build and support data pipelines for enterprise analytics and reporting. Conduct data quality assessments, reconciliation, and integrity checks. Apply statistical analysis techniques to support customer segmentation, threshold setting, and performance monitoring. Support data migration and modernization initiatives across Oracle and Azure environments. Execute end-to-end quality control activities and identify data gaps or inconsistencies. Prepare technical documentation to support governance, audit, and compliance requirements. Collaborate with business, technology, analytics, and project teams to deliver data-driven solutions. Identify opportunities to improve processes through analytics and data insights. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Data Engineering, Advanced Analytics, or a related field. Expert-level proficiency in Python. Advanced SQL skills, including complex query development, optimization, and debugging. Strong experience with data exploration, data analysis, and large-scale datasets. Experience performing data transformation, data stitching, and data validation. Experience building or supporting enterprise data pipelines. Strong understanding of statistical analysis and analytical methodologies. Experience working on data-driven or data-centric projects. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred Qualifications Experience within Banking or Financial Services. Exposure to AML, Financial Crime, Risk, or Compliance initiatives. Experience with data migration, cloud transformation, or modernization projects. Knowledge of Oracle and Azure data environments. Experience with SAS, Informatica, Tableau, or similar analytics tools. Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
