Located at the Bowmanville Cement Plant, the Human Resources Generalist is an on-site Human Resources contact for plant employees, supervisors and managers. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, this role provides day-to-day support across employee and labour relations, recruitment and onboarding, performance management, attendance and disability management, training coordination, HR systems and records administration. The Human Resources Generalist partners closely with plant leadership, union representatives, Corporate Human Resources, Payroll and Safety to support a safe, respectful, compliant and productive workplace. WHAT WILL YOU DO? Serves as an advisor to plant leaders on applicable Ontario employment and labour legislation, collective agreement requirements, Company policies, ethical and workplace issues, employee relations and progressive discipline. Develops and maintains an effective department work environment and creates and promotes harmonious working relationships with other departments and employees. Coaches and supports managers and supervisors on all processes of performance management to ensure that they are understood and being used. Provides front-line support for employee and labour relations matters, including workplace concerns, investigations, grievance administration and preparation of documentation in accordance with the collective agreement and Company policy. Builds constructive working relationships with union representatives and supports the Human Resources Manager and plant leadership with labour relations activities and collective bargaining preparation, as required. Partners with plant leadership and Safety to reinforce safe-work expectations, support safety-related communications and training, and address people-related matters that may affect workplace health and safety. Supports hourly and salaried recruitment for the plant, including job postings, interview coordination, candidate communication, pre-employment requirements and onboarding. Supports attendance, accommodation, disability and return-to-work processes in partnership with employees, leaders and applicable internal or external partners. Maintains accurate employee, position and organizational data in SAP, Dayforce, Kronos and other HR systems, and provides regular and ad hoc workforce reporting to plant and HR leadership. Provides guidance and training to managers and supervisors on interviewing, hiring, onboarding, performance management, progressive discipline and termination processes. Liaises with local and Corporate Human Resources in the administration of payroll, benefits programs, pension plans, and all HR policies and procedures. Liaises with Payroll for compensation and benefits to ensure required forms are accurately documented. Maintains department related information for monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and prepares data as requested on a routine and ad hoc basis. Assist with all internal and external HR related inquiries or requests. Maintain and ensure that employee records are updated as necessary and are accurate. Maintains the HRIS system (SAP) ensuring accurate data input and integrity are maintained. Assists with Temp to Full-Time conversions (notifications, letters, onboarding paperwork and scheduling and preparing for orientation sessions) Processes all new hire paperwork, IT forms, and onboarding. Assists department with administrative needs. Maintains and updates employee communication. Department filing and scanning compliance. Assists with coordinating annual and one-time facility-wide events. Coordinates company sponsored programs. Assists with facilitating company bereavement, service award and tuition reimbursement programs. Ensures Company’s HR processes are supported and administered in a timely basis including but not limited to, BSC scorecard development, bonus payout, merit increases, employee development (SDV & IDP), climate survey. Coordinates plant training on legislated and Company requirements, including workplace harassment and violence prevention, employment standards, human rights, accessibility and other mandatory training. Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? A university degree or college diploma in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business Administration or a related field, with two to five years of relevant Human Resources experience, preferably in unionized manufacturing, cement, construction or heavy industrial environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience in a unionized industrial environment. Should have knowledge of SAP, Dayforce, Kronos, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?
