Job details
About Verdyn Verdyn is a Canadian designer and manufacturer of power-electronics based solutions for critical infrastructure. Our advanced electrical systems solve challenges for customers in demanding environments where grid capacity, power quality, and system response are mission-critical. Built around advanced power electronics, control software, and modelling-first engineering, Verdyn delivers turnkey solutions from grid connection to load. These combine Canadian manufacturing and testing, system integration, commissioning, and long-term support. Our work spans utility, industrial, manufacturing, oil and gas, data centres, energy storage, and EV charging applications. At Verdyn, we don't just offer jobs — we build careers. About the Role We're looking for a Senior Firmware & FPGA Engineer to own firmware development of our solid state transformer at our Oakville facility. You'll own the real-time control firmware and FPGA gateware at the heart of our SST. Working side by side with our power-electronics hardware team, you'll partition the fast control between FPGA fabric and processor, close timing on the gateware, and bring the control loops up on real high-power hardware built around Infineon SiC devices. What you'll do at Verdyn: - Architect and develop embedded firmware and FPGA gateware for real-time control, protection and modulation of the SST power stages. - Write FPGA/RTL (VHDL or Verilog) for high-speed control, PWM and gate-drive generation, ADC interfacing and hardware protection logic — simulation, testbenches and timing closure included. - Implement real-time control algorithms across MCU/DSP and FPGA, partitioning function between software and gateware. - Drive the switching control of Infineon SiC power stages, working closely with hardware on gate-drive and protection. - Bring up new power hardware with the team, debug with scopes and logic/protocol analyzers, and run unit, integration and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to IEC 61508. Qualifications: - 5+ years of in-industry embedded firmware for power electronics, renewable energy or automotive — shipped product, not coursework. - Production FPGA/RTL in VHDL or Verilog (Xilinx, Altera, Lattice or Microchip), with simulation and timing closure. - Strong embedded C/C++ on microcontrollers and/or DSPs, with real-time control. - Hands-on hardware bring-up and strong hardware–software integration. - A degree in Computer, Electrical or Embedded Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience. Recommended to have: - Power-electronics / converter / inverter control, or SST and high-frequency topologies. - SiC-based power-stage experience (Infineon or similar). - SoC FPGA (Xilinx Zynq) experience. - Modelling and simulation (Simulink, PLECS, PSIM) and model-based design. - IEC 61508 / ISO 26262 functional safety; Git, CI and agile. To apply, send your resume and a short note to info@verdyn.ca, or apply through LinkedIn.
