VMAC is seeking a Machinist to join its Custom Shop. Reporting to Custom Shop Supervisor, this position will be responsible for assisting with new product development through prototyping and producing manufacturing tooling. The successful candidate will need to use good judgment and a wide variety of metalworking skills to efficiently manufacture quality prototypes and tooling. As Machinist you will: Take on machining jobs that are fresh and diverse, providing new opportunities and challenges to further develop your skills. Program CNC equipment using software like Mastercam and Vericut to produce reliable, repeatable machining processes for prototypes and tooling. Safely utilize CNC milling and turning centers, manual lathes and milling machines, grinders, drill press, saws, presses, ovens, pneumatic and electric hand-held power tools. Perform complex setups, adjustments, and tool changes to manufacture prototypes. Set up CNC machines and inspect prototypes as they are manufactured using probing cycles and manual inspection tools, making adjustments when necessary to ensure quality. Evaluate prototypes and perform basic dimensional inspections using tools including but not limited to, bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauge blocks, Indicators etc. Design jigs and fixtures when required using Solidworks (or manual layout). Problem-solve with cross-functional groups regarding new product development and manufacturing. Provide ideas and other feedback for design and manufacturability improvements directly to designers. Assist team with mechanical assembly and disassembly. Understand engineering drawings and specifications including GD&T as per ASME Y14.5. Perform routine cleaning as defined by VMAC’s 5s recommendations and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on machines, tooling and parts. Adhere to VMAC’s approved Lean Manufacturing and Quality Control methods. Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety and environmental compliance. What you bring: A minimum of secondary school or GED Diploma, or an associate degree in a technical field or trade school. Machinist Red Seal or other qualification deemed appropriate. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 3 years of experience in a fast-paced machining environment. 2+ years of experience working on CNC Milling Centers and Turning Centers. Working knowledge of CNC programming with Fanuc, Heidenhain or similar controls. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office software Word, Excel and Outlook. MasterCAM or other relevant CAM software experience Solidworks or other relevant CAD software experience. Why VMAC? The Machinist will assist with new product development by prototyping and producing manufacturing tooling using CNC and manual equipment. They are responsible for programming, setting up machines, and performing quality inspections to ensure precision and manufacturability.

Candidates must have a minimum of a secondary school diploma or technical trade qualification, along with a Machinist Red Seal. At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced machining environment and proficiency in CNC programming and CAD/CAM software are required.
