Role Description The Sous Chef is a full-time, on-site role based in Calgary, AB, supporting the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations. This role includes preparing and cooking menu items, assisting with menu planning, and ensuring consistent food quality and presentation. The Sous Chef helps oversee kitchen staff, supports scheduling and task delegation, and promotes safe food handling and sanitation practices. Responsibilities also include monitoring inventory, assisting with ordering supplies, minimizing waste, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment. The Sous Chef collaborates with the culinary and service teams to meet dietary needs, respond to resident feedback, and uphold Wellings of Calgary’s standards for hospitality. Qualifications Strong skills in food preparation, cooking techniques, and plating, with the ability to follow and execute standardized recipes. Experience assisting with menu development, portion control, and maintaining consistent quality across multiple meal services. Knowledge of kitchen safety, food handling regulations, and sanitation standards, with a commitment to a clean and safe work environment. Ability to lead and support kitchen staff, delegate tasks effectively, and collaborate positively with culinary and service teams. Good organizational and time-management skills, including the capacity to work efficiently during peak service periods. Relevant culinary education, apprenticeship, or equivalent professional kitchen experience; prior experience in hospitality, senior living, or healthcare dining is an asset. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Strong communication skills and a resident-focused mindset, with an interest in supporting diverse dietary needs and preferences.
