With a focus on innovation, education and customer wellbeing, this organisation continues to expand its retail presence across Canada. The Role They are seeking a Quality Assurance Supervisor on a 12-month contract to provide maternity leave coverage and oversee the day-to-day activities of their quality function. Reporting into the broader quality and operations structure, this individual will help maintain compliance with applicable Natural Health Product Regulations (NHPR) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The successful candidate will take ownership of quality systems, regulatory documentation, investigations, audits, and supplier oversight while guiding a team of quality professionals. Working closely with internal departments and external manufacturing partners, they will identify potential risks, resolve quality concerns, and strengthen existing processes to support consistent product standards and regulatory compliance. The Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Direct daily quality operations, provide technical guidance to team members, and ensure responsibilities are completed accurately and within established timelines. Quality Systems Management: Maintain and enhance the quality management system, including electronic quality management platforms, controlled documentation, procedures, and associated records. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure site activities and product quality practices align with Canadian Natural Health Product Regulations, applicable GMP requirements, and relevant international standards. Product Specifications: Coordinate the creation, maintenance, and approval of finished product specifications, analytical testing requirements, and test methods in partnership with product development and external manufacturing facilities. Investigation and Corrective Action: Lead investigations into product discrepancies, out-of-specification results, customer complaints, and other quality events. Determine root causes and oversee corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) through to completion. Deviation and Risk Management: Assess planned and unexpected process deviations, evaluate their potential impact, and collaborate with manufacturing partners and internal stakeholders to determine appropriate resolutions. Document Control and Change Management: Review and authorize changes to products, processes, and controlled documents, ensuring appropriate risk evaluations, approvals, and records are completed. External Partner Oversight: Establish and maintain quality agreements with contract manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, and warehousing providers to clearly define quality expectations and responsibilities. Audit and Inspection Readiness: Coordinate internal quality audits, document findings, track non-conformances, and support external audits and regulatory inspections. Continuous Improvement: Evaluate quality data, monitor performance trends, and use statistical process control techniques to identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve operational consistency. Product and Process Validation: Develop validation strategies for new products and significant manufacturing process changes, ensuring appropriate evidence supports process reliability and quality outcomes. Stability Program Management: Review and authorize finished product stability studies to verify that products continue to meet established specifications throughout their claimed shelf life. Supplier Qualification: Define approval standards for new suppliers and manufacturing partners, assess their quality systems, and conduct periodic reviews of existing partners to verify ongoing compliance. Training and Development: Identify employee training requirements, maintain training records and competency matrices, and ensure personnel understand relevant quality procedures and regulatory obligations. Product Risk Assessment: Develop and maintain risk assessment tools to identify potential hazards, evaluate their significance, and establish suitable mitigation measures. Preventive Controls: Maintain oversight of Preventive Control Plans (PCPs) applicable to dietary supplement products and ensure relevant controls remain effective. Customer Quality Support: Manage product-related feedback and complaints, coordinate investigations, determine appropriate corrective measures, and ensure timely, well-supported responses. Additional Duties: Contribute to other quality assurance and compliance initiatives as required to support the organization's operational objectives. The Requirements: A bachelor's degree in Quality Assurance, Life Sciences, Food Science, or a related scientific or technical discipline. At least five years of progressive experience in quality assurance, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities within natural health products, pharmaceutical, food, or a similarly regulated manufacturing environment. Strong working knowledge of GMP principles and regulatory requirements, including Canada's Natural Health Product Regulations (SOR/2003-196) and U.S. dietary supplement cGMP requirements under 21 CFR Part 111. Demonstrated ability to develop, revise, and implement SOPs, controlled forms, workflow documentation, and other quality system materials. Practical experience managing electronic quality management systems (eQMS) and manufacturing-related software. Familiarity with product specifications, deviations, CAPA, change controls, risk assessments, validation, stability programs, and audit processes. Proven ability to lead and develop a small to medium-sized quality team while maintaining high standards of documentation and regulatory compliance. Strong organizational skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments and coordinate with external suppliers and contract manufacturing partners. Proficiency in Google Workspace, including Docs, Sheets, and Drive. Additional Assets Previous experience in an NHP GMP-regulated manufacturing environment. A recognized quality assurance certification or additional qualification in quality management. Knowledge of established pharmacopeial standards, such as USP or BP, including applicable product specifications, analytical methods, and acceptance criteria. If you are an experienced quality assurance professional who enjoys leading teams, strengthening quality systems, and ensuring products meet rigorous regulatory standards, this contract opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution.
