Senior Funder (Senior Law Clerk) $100K-105K base plus great bonus and benefits Downtown Toronto, Ontario (hybrid) A leading real estate investment firm is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Funder to join its growing team. We have titled this as Senior Law Clerk because the client is specifically looking for someone who either comes with this background or is already in a funder position. In this role, you will be a critical player within the firm's commercial mortgage division, focusing on funding apartment term and construction loans. Your expertise will ensure the seamless progression of mortgage transactions from initial deal setup through to final funding and closing. The ideal candidate thrives on flawless execution, collaboration, and adaptability, and brings a robust understanding of commercial mortgage funding processes—particularly CMHC-insured transactions. Responsibilities: Stakeholder Communication: Act as a primary point of contact for internal deal teams and external stakeholders throughout the entire funding lifecycle. Documentation Review: Meticulously review solicitor documentation to ensure strict alignment with the initial mortgage commitment, CMHC insurance policies, and internal company guidelines. Compliance & Due Diligence: Verify that all mortgage conditions are met, all required documentation is received, and files are 100% complete ahead of closing. Risk Escalation: Proactively identify discrepancies or issues in loan documentation and escalate them to the deal team or credit managers as required. Fund Advancement: Coordinate seamlessly with accounting teams and external solicitors to ensure mortgage funds are released accurately and on schedule. Pipeline & Reporting Management: Set up and maintain deal records across various platforms, ensuring data integrity from the first engagement through to closing. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, or a related field. Experience: A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in commercial mortgage lending, loan operations, legal services, or financial services. Specialized Knowledge: Strong familiarity with real estate deal closing. Core Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, stellar organizational skills, and the proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously. Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective engagement with legal, regulatory, and financial counterparties.
