Title: Lab Technician I Reports To: Lab Supervisor Job Purpose: Supports product validation and development testing activities by assisting in test setup, execution, and data collection under the guidance of senior technicians and engineers. Responsible for accurate execution of assigned tasks, maintaining test equipment and work areas, and developing foundational technical skills required to support new product development and validation activities. Key Responsibilities Testing & Validation Execution Assist in the setup and execution of product testing activities. Prepare test units, fixtures, and instrumentation as directed Execute tests according to defined procedures and work instructions Monitor test conditions and report abnormalities to senior technicians Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting Collect, validate, analyze, and interpret test data using calibrated instrumentation and sound engineering principles. Ensure accuracy and completeness of all recorded data, including raw data, images, and reports Generate clear, structured reports for review by Supervisor Prototype Build & Fabrication Support development activities through hands-on prototype work. Build and modify prototype units from production or custom components Fabricate and adapt parts using PDT equipment and tools Identify and document design improvement opportunities during builds Team Support and Collaboration Support product development activities. Support root cause analysis activities in collaboration with Engineering and Quality Support senior technicians and engineers in daily lab activities Participate in team tasks and project activities as assigned Equipment Operation and Maintenance Operate lab equipment under supervision Assist in maintaining and calibrating equipment Identify and report equipment issues Lab Organization & Safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment (5S) Follow all health and safety procedures Properly store tools, materials, and equipment Education & Experience Post-secondary diploma in Engineering Technology or College Technician (Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC or related) 1 year of relevant experience in a production or testing environment G3 / WETT / ODP (or ability to obtain within 2 years) Additional certifications (G2, 313, etc.) are considered an asset Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) Basic mechanical and/or electrical aptitude Familiarity with hand and power tools This is an entry-level role focused on developing technical capability. The Lab Technician Level 1 works under close guidance and is expected to build the skills required to progress to independent technical work.
