Optical Design Engineer Company Overview World Star Tech is a leading manufacturer of laser systems for biomedical, instrumentation, and machine vision applications. Based in Markham, our modern facility is home to a dynamic team working on cutting-edge photonics technology. We are currently seeking an Optical Design Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is creative, technically skilled, and has a strong background in optical modeling and component design, along with hands-on experience building laser systems. If you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges and bringing advanced laser systems to life, we'd love to hear from you. Key Responsibilities Design and build custom laser systems and modules. Model and optimize optical systems in Zemax. Design active and passive photonic components. Perform precision optical alignment of complex photonic assemblies. Conduct measurement, characterization, and validation of optical components. Prepare detailed technical documentation, including inspection reports, test plans, and results. Source components and specialized test equipment. Rapidly prototype opto-electronic assemblies to support product development. Qualifications Master's or PhD degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Experience modeling optical systems in Zemax. Experience designing passive and active photonic components. Experience handling and characterizing photonic assemblies (lasers, detectors, etc.). Proficient with small, sensitive optical component alignment techniques. Experience using AutoCAD. Candidates should be proficient in precision alignment of small, sensitive optical components, have AutoCAD experience and strong English communication skills, and be legally eligible to work in Canada.
