Volunteer Opportunities — Leadership & Volunteer Engagement Team Organization: X Helping Hands Association Location: Remote (applications welcome from anywhere in Canada) Duration: 6 months Positions: 3 Compensation: Volunteer positions with an honorarium provided upon successful completion of the term About X Helping Hands X Helping Hands is a federally incorporated nonprofit organization rooted in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and now active across the province. We work to build more welcoming, inclusive, and connected communities through community programs, leadership opportunities, education, research, and meaningful opportunities for people to contribute. As our organization continues to grow, we are looking for motivated individuals to join our leadership and volunteer engagement team. Current Opportunities We are currently recruiting for three positions: 1. Director of Grants & Funds- Board Position Leadership / Management Role The Director of Grants & Funds will lead X Helping Hands' grant and funding activities and help strengthen the organization's financial sustainability. Responsibilities may include: Researching and identifying relevant grants, funding opportunities, and sponsorships. Developing and maintaining a funding opportunities database. Supporting and coordinating grant applications and funding proposals. Working with the Executive Director and leadership team on funding priorities. Helping develop grant-related strategies and timelines. Supporting reporting and documentation for funded projects. Supervising and supporting approximately two volunteers working within the Grants & Funds area. This is a board-level leadership position with responsibility for managing volunteers and helping guide the organization's fundraising and grant development work. 2. Director of Media & Communications- Board Position Leadership / Management Role The Director of Media & Communications will lead X Helping Hands' communications, media, and digital presence. Responsibilities may include: Developing and implementing communications strategies. Supporting XHH's social media and online presence. Creating and coordinating promotional and organizational content. Helping share XHH's programs, initiatives, volunteer opportunities, and community impact. Supporting media outreach and communications materials. Maintaining consistency in XHH's public messaging and branding. Supervising and supporting approximately two volunteers working within the Media & Communications area. Working closely with the Executive Director and other directors to communicate organizational priorities. This is a board-level leadership position with responsibility for managing volunteers and helping shape how X Helping Hands communicates its work to the broader community. 3. Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Engagement Lead Volunteer Leadership Role The Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Engagement Lead will focus specifically on building and strengthening XHH's volunteer community. Responsibilities may include: Identifying new opportunities and strategies for volunteer recruitment. Helping promote XHH volunteer opportunities through appropriate networks and platforms. Supporting volunteer onboarding and orientation. Helping develop volunteer training and engagement initiatives. Maintaining communication with prospective and current volunteers. Identifying ways to improve volunteer retention, recognition, and engagement. Helping match volunteers with suitable opportunities within XHH. Working with the Executive Director to strengthen XHH's overall volunteer program. Exploring partnerships, networks, and other opportunities that could help XHH recruit and engage volunteers. This is an independent leadership role, working closely with the Executive Director rather than managing a separate team of volunteers. Who We're Looking For We are looking for individuals who are: Organized, dependable, and proactive. Strong communicators. Comfortable working independently in a remote environment. Interested in nonprofit, community, leadership, or social impact work. Passionate about creating inclusive and welcoming communities. Willing to take initiative and contribute ideas. Comfortable collaborating with a small leadership team. For the Director positions, experience in grants, fundraising, communications, media, nonprofit leadership, or volunteer management is an asset. For the Volunteer Recruitment, Training & Engagement Lead, experience in recruitment, community engagement, volunteer coordination, human resources, communications, or leadership is an asset. Previous nonprofit experience is helpful but not required. We value willingness to learn, initiative, and commitment to our mission.
