The Opportunity: Casual Plant Operator Casual On-Call Plant Operator, based out of Mayo, YT. Compensation: $30.10-$35.94 per hour. Want to put your skills to work while helping keep an essential service running in your community? Yukon Energy is looking for a Casual Plant Operator to join our team in Mayo, Yukon. This is an opportunity to build hands-on experience in electrical generation while helping support safe and reliable power for Yukoners. Who we are: Yukon Energy is the main generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the territory. Our plant facilities are on the Traditional Territory of Yukon First Nations. There are 14 First Nations in the territory, and we are proud to work within these Traditional Territories in all our business operations. What will you do: Working under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Plant Operators, you’ll help keep our generating facilities operating safely and efficiently. Your work may include: * Operating electrical generating units, plant systems, and auxiliary equipment; * Monitoring equipment and identifying potential operational or maintenance issues; * Assisting with light maintenance of generating equipment; * Following established safety procedures and operational requirements; and * Working alongside other Yukon Energy employees to support safe and reliable plant operations. This is a casual, on-call position, with opportunities for work based on operational needs and weather conditions. Our need for additional coverage typically increases as temperatures drop, making this a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in utility operations and support an essential service in the Mayo community. What you need to succeed: We’re looking for someone who is dependable, safety-minded, comfortable working around equipment, and willing to learn. Ideally, you have: * Grade 12 education combined with vocational or hands-on training in light maintenance, equipment operation, or a related area; * Previous related work experience; * Experience operating or working around heavy equipment; * A strong commitment to safe work practices and contributing to a safe work environment; * Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Windows-based applications; * A valid Class 5 driver’s licence; * A valid First Aid certificate; * Strong teamwork and communication skills; and * The ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment. This is a safety-sensitive position. Applicants should generally be at least 19 years of age. Candidates under 19 may still be considered based on relevant experience, training, and demonstrated ability to meet the safety requirements of the role.
