(PIPSC Bargaining Unit) Reporting to the Manager, Workplace Safety & Well-Being, the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) provides occupational health nursing services to promote and protect the health, safety and well-being of employees, Medical Staff, volunteers, students, contractors and other affiliated personnel. The OHN provides clinical expertise, assessment and consultation related to employee health, communicable disease and occupational exposure management, immunization, occupational injury and illness, health surveillance and workplace health promotion. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required * Thorough knowledge of occupational health nursing principles, practices and professional standards, including employee health assessment, health surveillance, occupational injury and illness, and workplace health promotion. * Strong knowledge of communicable disease prevention and management, immunization, occupational exposure management and infection prevention and control principles. * Knowledge of occupational health and safety principles, workplace hazards, workers’ compensation requirements and applicable occupational health and safety legislation. * Knowledge of fitness for work, work ability, accommodation and return-to-work principles and the role of occupational health nursing in supporting these processes. * Knowledge of healthcare and hospital operations, including clinical environments, occupational risks and the roles of related programs and healthcare professionals. * Knowledge of relevant legislation, professional standards, clinical guidelines, organizational policies and accreditation requirements applicable to occupational health nursing. * Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ history, cultures and communities, and an understanding of First Nations peoples’ experiences within the healthcare system. * Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess complex occupational health concerns and determine appropriate interventions, follow-up and recommendations. * Strong communication, interpersonal and consultation skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive clinical information, develop collaborative relationships and work effectively with employees, leaders, healthcare providers and other stakeholders. * Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze employee health information, occupational health trends and program outcomes and make evidence-informed recommendations. * Ability to work independently, exercise sound clinical judgment and discretion, maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent or time-sensitive occupational health matters. * Proficient computer skills and the ability to effectively use relevant clinical, data and reporting systems and learn new systems as required. The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor of Nursing (BN, BScN, or equivalent), be eligible for registration with the Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA), and have a valid Yukon RN practice licence prior to commencing practice. Three (3) to five (5) years of recent nursing experience in occupational health, employee health, public health, infection prevention and control, communicable disease management, or a related area is required, along with current CPR/BLS certification. Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN(C)), occupational health and safety education, workplace health promotion, psychological health and safety, employee wellness, project management, or quality improvement training would be considered an asset.
