Role Description The Automotive Key Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Toronto, ON. This role involves diagnosing key and lock issues, cutting and programming replacement keys, and configuring smart keys, proximity fobs, transponder keys, and keyless entry remotes for a variety of vehicle makes and models. The technician will work directly on vehicles to read key codes, program keys from scratch when all keys are lost, and perform security procedures such as deleting stolen keys from vehicle systems. Day-to-day tasks include using specialized key-cutting and programming equipment, maintaining accurate records of services performed, explaining work and recommendations to customers in clear language, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. The role may also include occasional roadside or off-site service calls, inventory management for key components, and collaboration with team members to improve processes and customer experience. Qualifications Candidates should possess technical skills in automotive key cutting and programming, including laser/sidewinder and traditional edge cutting, transponder key pairing, and smart key/fob configuration. Candidates should possess strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills for key and lock systems, including reading vehicle key codes, troubleshooting immobilizer issues, and performing security procedures after key loss or theft. Candidates should possess customer service and communication skills, including clear explanation of services, professional interaction with diverse customers, and the ability to handle stressful situations calmly. Candidates should possess basic mechanical and electrical aptitude, including safe use of scan tools and equipment, understanding of vehicle electronic systems related to keys, and adherence to safety protocols. Candidates should possess organizational skills such as accurate recordkeeping, time management, and inventory tracking for key blanks, fobs, batteries, and related components. Previous experience in automotive locksmithing, dealership key services, or related automotive technology roles is beneficial. Relevant training or certification in automotive locksmithing, automotive technology, or electronics is an asset; willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training is essential. Ability to work on-site in a fast growing environment. Responsibilities: Keep work area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary tools and supplies Update clients, dispatch, and management on your daily schedule, if there are any delays or changes. Be responsible for maintaining company vehicle, tools & equipment. Be responsible for keeping accurate logs of sales stops. Be on the road daily meeting with clients at on-site locations. Be responsible for sending closes after the completion of each job if it's not a large project. Troubleshoot & resolve product issues and concerns Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Possess computer skills, including email and use of internet. 21+ years of age with valid driver’s license. No criminal record (We will run a background check). Ability to work remotely without constant supervision. Go getter and problem solver attitude. 2-5 years of automotive locksmith or key experience is a plus. Ability to work in all elements of weather. Ability to lift car hoods, disconnect vehicle batteries, enter and exit vehicles. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, squat, stand, stoop and bend.
