The Opportunity This position is based at our Ottawa office within the Point of Care Division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. As an Associate Engineer in the Supplier Engineering group, you will have the chance to support supply continuity, supplier performance, new supplier onboarding and manufacturing improvement initiatives. What You’ll Do Provide technical support and consultation to suppliers on deficiencies related to cartridge materials and components, including supplier site, specification and process changes. Support the qualifications of new suppliers, alternate suppliers, and new or modified materials through data collection, technical evaluations, risk assessments, testing activities, and documentation of qualification requirements. Lead technical activities related to failure analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) activities, both internally and with external suppliers, using structured problem-solving methodologies. Maintain and analyze reports on materials, identify trends, and support implementation of corrective actions with internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external suppliers to support quality, delivery, and technical objectives. Ensure work complies with Abbott quality and regulatory requirements (FDA, ISO, IVDR, DEKRA) and that deliverables meet applicable standards and procedures. Participate in process improvement initiatives and provide technical input to manufacturing and supplier-related projects. Understand and comply with applicable Environmental Health and Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Responsible for implementing and maintaining effectiveness of Quality System. Other tasks and duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Less than one year experience in an engineering role. Undergraduate University Degree in Engineering or Science with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Co-op and/or internship experience in a related field an asset. Demonstrated success in challenging engineering, science, and related coursework. Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make data-driven decisions. Leadership skills demonstrated through extracurricular activities. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience analyzing manufacturing and quality data to support process improvements, risk assessments, validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong understanding of statistical principles and methods, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, JMP, Minitab, or equivalent statistical analysis software. Strong attention to detail with the ability to prepare accurate technical reports, investigation reports and quality documentation. Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information and collaborate with cross-functional teams at all organizational levels. Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC), Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and quality management system requirements. The annual base salary for this position ranges from $59,250.00 to $86,900.00 CAD. The salary range provided applies to Canada only and does not apply to any other locations outside of Canada.
