H&S Safety Advisor Location: Port Moody, BC Term: 1 Year (possibility of extension) Schedule: 40 hours per week, 7am-3:30 pm About the Role The H&S Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting safe work execution across field and office operations. This position works closely with operations personnel and contractors to identify hazards, ensure compliance with safety standards, support high-risk work activities, and promote a strong safety culture through coaching, inspections, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities Participate in safety meetings, contractor toolbox talks, and field safety discussions. Conduct worksite safety assessments and inspections using Critical Control Assurance (CCA) and Enablon checklists. Provide field coaching and immediate corrective feedback when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed. Identify and communicate safety hazards and ensure appropriate controls are implemented prior to and during work activities. Support work execution activities by verifying hazards have been identified and mitigated. Assess contractor qualifications, certifications, training, and competencies to ensure compliance with safety requirements. Conduct field assessments of high-risk work activities, including confined space entry, excavation, working at heights, and control of hazardous energy. Support incident investigations and assist in identifying root causes and corrective actions. Promote reporting, learning, and continuous improvement across operations and contractor teams. Support contractor management processes and ensure compliance with contractor management requirements. Assist with hazard identification and risk assessments for planned scopes of work. Provide guidance to contractors regarding applicable safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements. Support the development and implementation of contractor Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) plans. Collaborate on health and safety planning activities, including exposure control, ventilation, and other hazard mitigation measures. Identify recurring safety trends and escalate high-risk issues to leadership as required. Qualifications Legally entitled to work in Canada. Recognized safety certification such as CRSP, CRST, CSO, or an Occupational Health & Safety diploma/degree with equivalent H&S experience. Minimum 10 years of safety experience in high-risk industrial work environments. Oil and gas industry experience is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience supporting high-risk work activities, including confined space entry, excavation, working at heights, and control of hazardous energy (LOTO). Strong knowledge of safety regulations and regulatory compliance requirements, including CNESST requirements. Experience developing, supporting, and implementing contractor health and safety programs and plans. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication, coaching, and stakeholder engagement skills. Proven ability to build positive safety cultures through reporting, learning, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and French. Ability to effectively interact and influence personnel at all levels of the organization. Understanding of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and their application to workplace safety. This position is based in Port Moody, BC. The successful candidate must be able to work primarily in the field environment and support contractor and operational teams in maintaining a safe, compliant, and high-performing workplace.

Requirements

Requires at least 10 years of safety experience in high-risk industrial environments, with oil and gas experience strongly preferred, and a recognized safety certification or an occupational health and safety diploma or degree with equivalent experience. Candidates must have experience with high-risk work and contractor safety programs, knowledge of safety regulations including CNESST requirements, strong communication and coaching skills, and proficiency in English and French.
