Senior Java Software Engineer

Position: Java Developer – Senior Software Engineer Duration: 12 months Location: Toronto, ON (4 Days Onsite) Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B About the Engagement Akkodis is seeking the services of experienced Java Developer(s) / Senior Software Engineer(s) to support the development and modernization of mission-critical services within a Brazil payments service-layer platform. The engagement will focus on designing and developing scalable APIs and microservices, event-driven architectures, payment integrations, and service implementations supporting a complex payments ecosystem. The consultant will collaborate closely with distributed technology teams, including Brazil-based teams, while contributing as a key member of the development factory. Services to be Provided Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Java-based microservices and APIs. Develop RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations. Build integrations between core banking platforms and external payment ecosystems. Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka and asynchronous messaging patterns. Participate in solution refinement, technical design, and architecture discussions. Ensure software solutions meet functional, non-functional, security, and compliance requirements. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software engineering best practices. Support production issue resolution, troubleshooting, and performance optimization. Contribute to modernization and sustainability initiatives for the payments platform. Collaborate effectively with distributed global development and technology teams. Expertise Required Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot. Strong experience designing and developing distributed systems and microservices architectures. Experience with Brazilian payment platforms and payment ecosystems. Strong experience developing REST APIs and service integrations. Strong experience with Kafka, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous integration patterns. Experience with MongoDB and/or relational databases, including Oracle or PostgreSQL. Experience with Redis or other caching technologies. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git, automated testing, and DevOps practices. Experience working within Agile development environments. Experience supporting payment systems, financial platforms, or transactional processing applications. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving capabilities. Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed and international teams. Important This is a business-to-business engagement. Candidates must represent an incorporated entity, hold a valid business number, maintain appropriate insurance, and invoice for services rendered. Nice to Have Portuguese language proficiency. Knowledge of PIX, TED, DDA, Receivables, Cash Management, or related banking products. Experience with Matera platforms and payment processing solutions. Experience with Airflow or workflow orchestration engines. Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native platforms. Experience with Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, or similar observability platforms. Experience working within highly regulated financial institutions.
