Your Opportunity: Give Life Alberta is seeking a casual Physiotherapist to join our specialized interdisciplinary team in Edmonton. This position provides physiotherapy services exclusively to transplant patients across the continuum of care, supporting both ambulatory/outpatient transplant clinics and the inpatient population on the wards and in intensive care at the University of Alberta Hospital. The Physiotherapist works collaboratively with the transplant physicians, surgeons, nurses, coordinators, social workers, dieticians and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support mobility, functional recovery and safe transitions of care. Key responsibilities include assessment and treatment of transplant patients with mobility, strength, endurance, balance and functional limitations; progressive mobilization and rehabilitation before and following transplantation; development of individualized treatment plans; assessment of mobility aids/ equipment needs; patient and family education; participation in discharge and interdisciplinary care planning. The position supports patients through their transplant journey with the goal of optimizing functional status, independence, recovery and quality of life. Description: As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta. Additional Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Acute care experience within a hospital setting. Strong communication, patient education, clinical documentation and interdisciplinary teamwork skills. Preferred Qualifications: Recent experience with complex surgical/ medical acute care patients. Demonstrated competence in mobility, gait, balance, transfers, strengthening, conditioning and progressive mobilization. Ability to independently assess patients, establish treatment goals, develop evidence-informed treatment plans, recognize changes and modify treatment interventions accordingly. Connect Care training and experience is preferred. Experience in related medical/ surgical physiotherapy is an asset.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy and current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta. A Master's degree, BCLS-HCP certification, and acute care hospital experience are also required.
